About the role
The Director, Technical Product Management is responsible for developing and executing the product vision and roadmap for all billing and payment systems at DIRECTV, LLC. This includes managing a team of Technical Product Managers and Release Train Engineers focused on billing and payments.
Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and grow a team of Technical Product Managers and Release Train Engineers focused on billing and payments.
- Drive strategic initiatives such as payment gateway expansion, dealer payment transformation, and overall payment flow optimization.
- Partner closely with IT and Finance teams to ensure delivery of scalable, secure, and resilient systems aligned with business objectives.
- Collaborate with finance and compliance teams to ensure billing accuracy, tax compliance (e.g., VAT/GST), audit readiness, and regulatory adherence.
- Serve as a subject matter expert and internal evangelist for all billing and payments related initiatives.
- Drive continuous innovation in payment technology, exploring emerging trends such as digital wallets, instant payments, and AI-driven reconciliation.
- Establish best practices for Agile delivery, including sprint planning, backlog prioritization, and cross-functional alignment across IT, Finance, and Compliance teams.
- Guide the team in transforming business requirements into well-defined product epics, features, and user stories, ensuring technical feasibility and alignment with enterprise architecture.
- Serve as a bridge between technical and non-technical stakeholders, effectively translating business goals into actionable product outcomes.
- Establish metrics and KPIs for accuracy, payment success rates, refund handling, and reconciliation cycles, ensuring continuous improvement.
- Design and implement monitoring and alerting frameworks for payment operations to proactively detect and resolve system anomalies.
- Collaborate with solution architects and engineering teams to define system architecture, data flows, and integration frameworks that support high transaction volumes and complex pricing logic.
- Drive decisions on technology modernization — e.g., microservices-based billing architecture, cloud-native scalability, and API-first payment integration especially in the Mulesoft based architecture.
- Lead digital and billing platforms.
- Utilize an understanding of regulatory frameworks including PCI-DSS and SOX.
- Lead Agile product teams and applying principles of the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) to plan, execute, and deliver complex enterprise financial and digital systems.
- Oversee product strategy with business goals and technical execution, leading architecture, and software development teams.
- Collaborate deeply with IT, Billing, Finance, and Compliance teams to drive architecture-level decisions, define technical requirements, and ensure delivery of secure, scalable, and compliant digital and billing systems.
Requirements
- Requires a Bachelor’s degree, or foreign equivalent degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Electronic Engineering and five (5) years of progressive, post-baccalaureate experience in the job offered or five (5) years of progressive, post-baccalaureate experience in a related occupation leading digital and billing platforms;
- Using strong technical acumen with the ability to engage deeply with IT and Finance teams to drive software architecture-level decisions and feature/user story definitions;
- Utilizing an understanding of regulatory frameworks including PCI-DSS and SOX;
- Leading Agile product teams and applying principles of the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) to plan, execute, and deliver complex enterprise financial and digital systems;
- Overseeing product strategy with business goals and technical execution, leading architecture, and software development teams;
