Director, Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology

About the Role

Queens Hospital Center is committed to delivering high-quality medical care to the residents of southeastern and central Queens. This position involves formulating policies and developing services for Audiology and Speech Therapy to support efficient and effective treatment, diagnosis, training, education, and research for both inpatient and outpatient care.

Responsibilities

• Plans, directs, and coordinates the activities of personnel in Hearing and Speech Therapy, including testing and treating patients according to established policies.
• Develops and formulates policies, methods, and procedures for Audiology and Speech Therapy programs, such as speech and hearing rehabilitation, diagnostic evaluation, counseling, and speech reading.
• Collaborates with administration, medical staff, and other professional departments to plan and deliver Speech Therapy and Audiology care.
• Formulates research objectives and programs in speech and hearing, directing research to enhance knowledge in Audiology, Biophysics, Psychophysics of Auditory Systems, and Speech Therapy.
• Designs clinical research procedures, directs research findings, and disseminates reports to appropriate management levels.
• Directs and controls diagnostic and rehabilitative services, including related research.
• Develops, establishes, and updates in-service training programs for Speech Therapy and Audiology staff and related therapeutic teams.
• Conducts progress reviews and maintains program effectiveness in delivering speech and hearing care.
• Organizes departmental personnel into areas of responsibility, authority, and specialization, and oversees staffing, direction, and control of departmental activities.
• Evaluates and audits staff job performance and recommends personnel actions.
• Develops, plans, and implements the departmental budget and establishes program priorities.
• Maintains contact with professional societies to stay current on ideas, exchange information, and implement best practices.

Requirements

• A Doctorate in Audiology or Speech Therapy (Ph.D. or Ed.D.) from an accredited university and certification by the American Speech & Hearing Association; and, three years of experience in Audiology or Speech Therapy, including at least one year in an administrative, managerial, or supervisory capacity.
• OR a Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Speech Pathology Therapy and Audiology and certification by the American Speech and Hearing Association; and, six years of experience in Audiology or Speech Therapy, including at least two years in an administrative, managerial, or supervisory capacity.
• OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
