Director - Software Engineering

For our client, a leader in the Energy & Utilities space, we are seeking a Director of Software Engineering to lead technical work focused on cloud-enabled scalability, reliability, and delivery excellence.

About the role

You will work across engineering, product, operations, and business stakeholders to translate complex requirements into practical technology solutions. The position offers the opportunity to influence architecture, execution quality, and the technology capabilities that enable long-term growth within the Energy & Utilities environment.

Location: Remote – US-based candidates only, no visa sponsorship available.

Responsibilities

• Shape the technical vision for Software Engineering alongside Principal Architects and senior leaders
• Establish engineering standards and reference architectures for Azure application development
• Oversee architectural decisions during key client engagements to ensure alignment with practice goals
• Identify engineering gaps and lead the development of training and reusable assets to enhance capabilities
• Champion the adoption of modern tools and engineering practices to improve software quality and reliability
• Monitor engagement performance and proactively address relationships at risk
• Act as a mentor and coach to managers and senior engineers, fostering team development

Qualifications

• 14+ years in application development/software engineering with hands-on cloud-native solution delivery
• 5+ years in application architecture leading development teams
• Expertise in Azure (preferred), AWS, or GCP with experience in production workload operations
• Proven ability to lead hybrid and distributed teams effectively across time zones
• Experience in a consulting or professional services environment
• Success in managing large, complex client engagements with accountability for delivery quality and client satisfaction
• Strong understanding of modern software engineering practices on cloud platforms, including DevOps and serverless concepts

Pay

$168,400 – $210,500 annually
