About the Role
Direct the overall operations of Risk Management at the College. Plan, organize, and manage the administrative and operational activities of an Occupational Health and Safety program and a Worker’s Compensation program. Direct, implement, and coordinate the enforcement of policies, regulations, and federal, state, and local laws as they pertain to OSHA compliance to ensure a safe and healthful environment for students, faculty, staff, and the community.
Responsibilities
- Identify, plan, develop, and implement comprehensive safety and health programs for all work and academic areas.
- Perform needs analysis and identify, facilitate, and coordinate safety training; maintain safety class rosters and training records.
- Perform regular inspections and make recommendations for compliance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations, including OSHA, Uniform Fire Code, Uniform Building Code, NIOSH, and EPA.
- Create, update, revise, and amend OSHA-required written plans; maintain records and the recordkeeping system.
- Plan programs and safety events to enhance awareness; administer OSHA programs pertaining to Hazard Communication, Bloodborne Pathogens, Emergency Procedures, Safety Data Sheets, and Chemical Hygiene.
- Coordinate and monitor hazardous and non-hazardous waste disposal.
- Plan, organize, direct, evaluate, and oversee a centralized risk management program, including risk identification and assessment.
- Meet with administration, faculty, and staff to identify and assess risks and ensure compliance.
- Ensure risk management and workers' compensation processes are consistent and efficient throughout the organization.
- Develop collaborations and contacts with internal and external stakeholders.
- Procure and manage property, liability, automobile liability, workers’ compensation, and other special insurance programs.
- Monitor and manage claims administration for liability, property, and workers’ compensation programs, including maintenance of detailed records.
- Design, direct, and monitor the implementation of a comprehensive workers’ compensation program, including:
- Establishing and implementing a project plan, setting goals, and allocating resources.
- Evaluating outcomes and making modifications as needed.
- Developing a formal return-to-work program.
- Standardizing and communicating procedures district-wide, including investigation of accidents, training, risk avoidance, claims administration, and reports to administrators.
- Coordinate inspections of College facilities by external regulatory agencies, including the State Fire Marshal, Department of Labor, and Workers’ Compensation representatives.
- Maintain records of visits and inspections.
- Stay current with federal, state, and local regulations as defined by OSHA.
Requirements
- Master’s degree in Public Health, Environmental Health, Occupational Health & Safety, or a related field. Equivalent work experience may substitute for the degree requirement.
- Five years of direct experience in risk management, workers’ compensation, or occupational health and safety.
- Knowledge of risk management, workers’ compensation, and occupational health and safety policies, programs, laws, rules, and regulations.
- Ability to learn, interpret, and communicate laws, regulations, and policies.
- Ability to promote, develop, and implement programs and procedures.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to organize work, maintain accuracy, and ensure confidentiality.
- Ability to travel between campus locations as needed.
