About the Facility

Fort Lauderdale Behavioral Health, a subsidiary of UHS, is a 182-bed treatment facility located in Oakland Park, FL. We specialize in the treatment of substance abuse and mental health issues for youth, adults, and seniors. Our team includes professionals in psychiatry, medicine, nursing, social services, education, and activity therapy, all committed to providing compassionate, comprehensive care tailored to each patient’s needs. We offer a continuum of mental health and addiction services, including inpatient, partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient, and ECT programs. Our goal is to deliver the highest quality treatment to help patients achieve long-term health and sobriety. The facility operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Responsibilities

  • Protect the hospital’s assets from loss through loss control efforts, including advising administration on potential sources of loss and recommending risk mitigation strategies.
  • Oversee the structure and function of risk management as outlined in the Risk Management Plan and Patient Safety Program.
  • Monitor, analyze, and report on risks; conduct investigations; and facilitate regulatory and accreditation activities.
  • Direct organizational efforts in safety and risk mitigation related to medical/healthcare errors and unintended adverse patient outcomes.
  • Lead performance improvement task forces, teams, and committees.
  • Direct the Health Information Management Service Department to ensure compliance with regulatory and licensing agency standards for patient records.
  • Maintain confidentiality and knowledge of ICD-9-CM and CPT coding.
  • Identify and address risk patterns to prevent adverse events.
  • Demonstrate cultural sensitivity and awareness of diverse practices.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree or BSN from an accredited school of nursing (licensed professional a plus).
  • Three years of clinical experience in a psychiatric inpatient facility with knowledge of high-risk areas.
  • Three years of management experience preferred.
  • Risk Management Certificate.
  • CPR/BLS/CPI certification.

Skills

  • Knowledge of hospital operations, risk identification, assessment, reduction, and claims management.
  • Familiarity with JCAHO, HCFA, OSHA, Patient Rights, state legislation, and Risk Management Standards.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Effective department staffing and leadership experience.
  • Understanding of risk patterns and prevention strategies.

Physical Requirements

  • Sedentary work, primarily sitting, with some standing.
  • Ability to lift 10 to 20 pounds.
  • Periodic walking across the campus.
