Director, Research Administration - Tisch Cancer Center
About the Role
The Director is responsible for the direction and management of business and operational activities of an assigned department, medical care unit, or division within the Mount Sinai Health System.
Responsibilities
- Provides administrative direction and coordination in the formulation, interpretation, and administration of current and long-range policies, procedures, and programs.
- Oversees daily department operations, including creating and implementing production schedules, tracking and reporting systems, managing workloads, and resolving issues.
- Establishes departmental goals and objectives aligned with Mount Sinai Hospital or School of Medicine policies and federal, state, and local regulations.
- Defines and documents procedures, identifies process and workflow improvements, and implements best practices for efficiency.
- Collaborates with division heads or chairmen to develop short- and long-range plans and serves as the primary point-of-contact for interdepartmental communications.
- Interprets and administers policies related to hiring, payroll, appointments, promotions, placement, and orientation of faculty and staff.
- Reviews and approves reclassifications, new positions, and salary increases.
- Directs and coordinates the performance appraisal system for faculty, professional staff, and biweekly employees, providing regular feedback.
- Identifies opportunities for continuing education and provides training, including designing in-house training materials.
- Ensures compliance with regulatory, insurance, and ethical standards regarding patient, employee, and property safety, and identifies contingency plans for potential risks.
- Encourages collaboration among divisions to coordinate operational activities and facilitate effective communication across functional areas.
- Plans budget needs by analyzing short- and long-term program plans and collaborates with the Chief Financial Officer to complete and monitor the annual budget.
- Implements quality assurance programs and oversees monitoring activities to meet accreditation standards (e.g., JCAHO, CARF, NY State and City Department of Health).
- Chairs department committees and participates in hospital committees as assigned.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
- Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in healthcare finance or administration.
- Experience in strategic planning and execution, policy formulation, financial planning, resource management, and team leadership.

Pay
The salary range for this role is $140,000 - $230,000 annually, depending on experience, education, and operational need. This range does not include bonuses, incentive pay, or other forms of compensation or benefits.
