About the role
The Civil Engineering Director will lead and manage multiple teams of engineers and/or other professional/technical staff within their discipline, providing guidance, mentorship, and support. They will foster a collaborative and innovative work environment that promotes teamwork and professional growth.

- Set performance goals, conduct regular performance evaluations, and identify areas for improvement.
- Implement and uphold rigorous quality control processes to ensure project deliverables meet high-quality standards.
- Oversee the planning, design, and implementation of projects within their discipline, ensuring timely and cost-effective completion.
- Review and approve designs, calculations, and drawings to ensure compliance with industry standards and client specifications.
- Stay updated on the latest advancements in technologies and methodologies within the discipline and apply them to enhance project outcomes.
- Collaborate with business development teams to prepare proposals, presentations, and bids for potential projects.
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with clients to understand their needs, address concerns, and identify new business opportunities.
- Develop and maintain a robust network of municipal clients and teaming partners.
- Ensure all projects adhere to relevant codes, regulations, and safety guidelines.
- Identify potential projects within the region and initiate implementation strategies for successful awarding of new design contracts.
- Utilize a deep understanding of principles and best practices within the discipline, to guide project teams effectively.
- Business development activities including client relationship building.
- Monitor project progress, address any issues or obstacles, and provide strategic solutions to ensure successful project execution.
- Develop project scopes, professional services fee development, and staff projections.
- Coordinate with clients, stakeholders, and project teams to understand project requirements and deliverables.
- Produce winning project proposals as lead professional/project manager.
- Support leaders of multiple teams producing public works projects.
- Supervise direct reports (Team Leaders) and train and coach Team Leaders and Production staff.
- Manage project administration and supervision.
- Work in a collaborative team environment with multiple offices and various disciplines.
- Oversee large scale, complex, multi-discipline projects.
- Drive sales growth, coach strong financial project performance, and monitor other key metrics.
Requirements
- Bachelor's or Master’s degree in civil engineering or ABET accredited equivalent engineering degree.
- Professional Engineer (P.E.) License in Texas.
- At least 20 years of experience in utility and public works design, local infrastructure, public works, municipal roadway, trails, drainage, and land development projects.
- AutoCAD Civil 3D experience.
- Strong technical writing and communication skills.
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage with clients, team members, and stakeholders effectively.
- Servant leader mentality with strong ability to train and mentor staff.
- Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and guide diverse teams effectively.
- Strong ability to train and mentor staff.

- Demonstrable project wins as a key individual on the project team organizational chart.
- Proven track record of successfully managing and delivering projects of varying sizes and complexities within their discipline.

- Excellent project management skills, including the ability to prioritize tasks, allocate resources, and manage budgets.
