About the role

The Director of Public Works leads and oversees multiple production teams within the firm, managing through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. They provide input to strategic decisions affecting the functional area of responsibility and collaborate with Practice Leaders and other Directors on inter-practice workshare.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage multiple teams of engineers and/or other professional/technical staff within their discipline, providing guidance, mentorship, and support.
  • Lead and coordinate annual sales goals for managing teams.
  • Foster a collaborative and innovative work environment that promotes teamwork and professional growth.
  • Set performance goals, conduct regular performance evaluations, and identify areas for improvement.
  • Oversee the planning, design, implementation of projects within their discipline, ensuring timely and cost-effective completion.
  • Collaborate with clients, stakeholders, and project teams to understand project requirements and deliverables.
  • Lead efforts for the firm's regional growth.
  • Monitor project progress, address any issues or obstacles, and provide strategic solutions to ensure successful project execution.
  • Utilize a deep understanding of principles and best practices within the discipline to guide project teams effectively.
  • Lead and manage high-profile or extensive design projects.
  • Review and approve designs, calculations, and drawings to ensure compliance with industry standards and client specifications.
  • Stay updated on the latest advancements in technologies and methodologies within the discipline and apply them to enhance project outcomes.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with clients to understand their needs, address concerns, and identify new business opportunities.
  • Collaborate with business development teams to prepare proposals, presentations, and bids for potential projects.
  • Implement and uphold rigorous quality control processes to ensure project deliverables meet high-quality standards.
  • Ensure all projects adhere to relevant codes, regulations, and safety guidelines.

Requirements

  • In-depth knowledge of principles, practices, and methodologies within their discipline.
  • Experience working with multidisciplinary teams on large-scale projects is an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong client relationships.
  • Proficient in using various software and tools for design, analysis, and project management.
  • Prominent track record of successfully managing and delivering projects of varying sizes and complexities within their discipline.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and guide diverse teams effectively.
  • Exceptional project management skills, including the ability to prioritize tasks, allocate resources, and manage budgets.
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage with clients, team members, and stakeholders effectively.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in their practice/discipline (Civil Engineering or similar).
  • 10+ years of proven experience in their discipline, with 3+ years in a team leadership role.
  • Professional Engineering license or a license within their discipline required.
