Responsibilities

As a Director - Property and Development Accounting - Living with Hines, you will be responsible for reviewing the accounting records and administrative matters for assigned projects and entities, as well as the supervision and development of respective accounting staff. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Working closely with applicable Hines personnel to ensure accuracy of accounting and financial reporting and construction draws (if applicable)
  • Communicating and coordinating with appropriate representatives of external parties
  • Treasury functions, including review of bank reconciliations and contribution/distribution calculations and understanding cash flow projections
  • Reviewing funding requests to investors and lenders
  • Reviewing and coordinating approval of reserves and write-offs in accordance with governing agreements
  • Ensuring all accounting records and reports are maintained timely, accurately, and in accordance with GAAP or other basis of accounting
  • General ledger review and analysis
  • Reviewing (or preparing) Property/Development Management fees and Construction Management fees, ensuring proper calculation, invoicing, and recording on a timely basis
  • Reviewing monthly/quarterly financial statements/reports and supporting schedules, working closely with the Property/Project Manager and Accountants to ensure accuracy
  • Researching accounting guidance and drafting position memos documenting accounting treatment of new/unusual items
  • Carrying out proper procedures to ensure internal controls are being met
  • Assisting Asset Management and Property Management with annual property budget and reconciliation between Argus model and budget/forecasts
  • Preparing audited financial statements and footnotes, and providing support for more complex accounting areas
  • Assisting Accountant/Senior Accountant with preparation of tax projections and tax preparation workpapers (may prepare for more complex projects/properties)
  • Contributing to the development of Senior Accountants and Accountants through supervision, training, and providing feedback for annual and ongoing reviews
  • Preparing and teaching/leading various Hines training courses to Accountants
  • Participating in pilots and process improvement opportunities, providing feedback and assisting in implementation
  • Preparing ad hoc reports for upper management and external users, as well as other significant internal reports
  • Demonstrating commitment to professional development by actively pursuing continuous education opportunities to enhance accounting skills, including obtaining CPA certification

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from an accredited institution
  • CPA required
  • Five or more years of professional accounting experience
  • Public accounting experience is strongly preferred
  • Previous supervisory experience is required
  • Commercial real estate experience is strongly preferred
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and time management skills
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Ability to set priorities and proactively meet deadlines
  • Ability to multi-task and manage multiple assignments
  • Analytical capability with strengths in identifying and implementing continuous improvement
  • Proficiency utilizing various systems; Oracle & JD Edwards system experience advantageous

Pay

Compensation: Chicago - $150,000 - $160,000; Houston & Dallas - to be determined based on experience
