Director, Project Management Office (PMO)
Southwire Company, LLC is one of North America’s largest wire and cable producers, manufacturing building wire and cable, utility products, metal-clad cable, portable and electronic cord products, OEM wire products, and engineered products. The company also supplies assembled products, contractor equipment, electrical components, hand tools, and jobsite power and lighting solutions. Additionally, Southwire offers digital solutions including contractor planning, utility grid resiliency, and field services such as cable testing, rejuvenation, and replacement.
About the role
The Project Management Office (PMO) Director will lead and manage large, complex projects spanning multiple plants within the organization. This role involves establishing the PMO function and collaborating with project-based businesses across Southwire to deliver foundational elements for achieving and sustaining world-class project performance. The Director will institute processes for effective project management, deploy supporting procedures and software solutions, and develop Project Management competence within the organization.
Responsibilities
- Establish the PMO Function: Develop and implement a Project Management Office covering the entire project value chain from proposal development to project close-out, collaborating with business units and key functions.
- Process Development: Create and establish a scalable, standardized gated "Project Process" for managing projects of various sizes and complexities, ensuring consistency and efficiency across the portfolio.
- Procedure Development: Deploy detailed procedures and templates for scope, schedule, cost, quality, resource, change, and risk management, including project team design, role descriptions, teambuilding, and communications.
- Digital Deployment: Select and deploy digital solutions, including automation, AI, and project management software, to manage individual projects and the overall portfolio.
- Stakeholder Management: Implement project governance to ensure timely input from internal and external stakeholders during planning and execution.
- Continuous Improvement: Identify and implement process improvements to enhance project management practices.
- Contract Review and Administration: Establish processes for contract review and risk assessment during proposal development and project execution, in collaboration with Legal.
- Project Management Competence: Develop and deliver competency programs for Project Managers at all levels, including standardized career path planning and advancement.
- Manage staff performance and development, coaching team members to achieve departmental goals.
- Perform other duties as assigned and comply with all policies and standards.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree (required); Master’s degree (preferred).
- 8-11 years of project management experience (required); 12-14 years (preferred).
- PMP Certification.
- Manages 5-10 direct reports.
- Domestic travel up to 50% of the time.
