About the role

This role sits at the intersection of Cultural strategy, Audience development, Institutional leadership, and Community engagement.

Responsibilities

  • Define what programming looks like at a leading cultural institution— and how it delivers impact.
  • Shape and lead a comprehensive programming strategy aligned with institutional goals.
  • Build relationships with authors, artists, and high-profile talent.
  • Prioritize high-impact experiences over volume.
  • Align programming with marketing, development, and audience growth.
  • Oversee budgets, contracts, and program investments.
  • Represent the Library with donors, partners, and the broader community.
  • Lead and develop a high-performing programming team.
  • Manage specific programs.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience in programming, cultural leadership, or related fields.
  • A track record of designing high-impact, audience-driven experiences.
  • Experience leading teams and managing budgets.
  • Strong strategic thinking and decision-making ability.
  • Confidence operating in a high-visibility environment.
  • Ability to engage and influence senior stakeholders and partners.
  • Ability to work flexible schedule including nights and weekends.

Qualifications

  • Strong understanding of library services and community needs.
  • Experience in developing and implementing programming strategies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Knowledge of grant writing and fundraising.
