About the role
The Director, Power Strategy will play a vital role in leading strategic and operations initiatives across Riot’s increasingly diversified business operations. In this role, the Director, Power Strategy will be responsible for the power operations team and leverage their expertise to:
- Lead the strategy of daily ancillary obligations and oversee energy curtailment for multiple sites.
- Analyze and recommend trading/hedging opportunities.
- Work cross functionally with the QSE and IT teams to execute power strategy and to support the continued growth and development of Riot’s self-mining, data center hosting, and electrical equipment businesses.
What you’ll do
- Leading power operations strategy to identify new market dynamics and opportunities to execute industry leading net power cost.
- Leading daily ancillary obligations, requiring collaborating with QSE, on-site operations, and IT.
- Leading curtailment of multiple sites to respond to high prices, demand response, and 4CP.
- Making sure natural gas, power prices, and ERCOT system conditions are monitored to recommend hedging opportunities and strategy.
- Working closely within the operations team and other cross functional teams within Riot to own power related operations and assist in developing overall strategy.
- Occasional travel to site locations 10-15%.
What you’ll bring
- A Bachelor’s degree in business / accounting / finance / economics.
- 7+ years of professional experience ideally in financial analysis, power trading, ERCOT planning/operations, and/or QSE/network operations center.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), particularly Excel and PowerPoint.
- Proficient in financial analysis and the development of complex financial models to analyze trading/hedging opportunities, including financial forecasting, scenario analysis, “what-if” analysis, etc.
- Experience with network operations center, QSE, ERCOT operations, and/or power trading is a plus, as is an existing network of relationships across such counterparties.
- Entrepreneurial spirit and an “ownership” attitude required to drive projects forward.
- Proactive problem-solver. Ability to manage cross-functionally and take ownership of workstreams.
- Strong interpersonal skills, able to quickly establish and maintain positive professional relationships both internally and externally and to work well with project teams and external advisors.
Compensation and Benefits
- Competitive Salary: $150,000 - $170,000 (commensurate with experience) + bonus + sign-on equity grant.
