Director, Plant Operations

About the Role

We are seeking a Director of Plant Operations to provide leadership to the Plant Operations Department at Oceans Behavioral Hospital Waco. This role directs and supports all work related to the physical plant and ancillary systems, engineering, grounds, security, and safety. The Director ensures compliance with regulatory agencies such as TJC, CMS, and other requirements, and oversees the hospital's plant operations, safety, and security programs. This includes hazardous materials management, law and insurance regulations, buildings, grounds, equipment, and occupant safety. The role also provides guidance on construction and remodeling projects and presents a positive image of the hospital to patients, visitors, physicians, and the public.

The Director oversees the Housekeeping department and collaborates with the Environment of Care Director on hospital projects, ensuring all duties align with Joint Commission, Federal and State regulations, and Oceans' mission and policies.

Responsibilities

• Establish and oversee the Organization's Plant Operations Program, including facility maintenance, life safety, and housekeeping operations.
• Ensure Plant Operations and Safety forms meet regulatory standards and provide adequate documentation of hospital plant operations functions.
• Inspect the facility for proper operation and working conditions; maintain maintenance records for equipment malfunctions.
• Collaborate with the Corporate Plant Operations Director to review records for auditing and training.
• Lead the process of obtaining bids for repairs and replacements, and coordinate with outside vendors for projects beyond the hospital's scope.
• Oversee day-to-day operations of Plant Operations staff, ensuring maintenance, alterations, and repairs are performed according to standards.
• Serve as an additional trainer for Crisis Intervention and De-escalation training.
• Conduct audits of the facility's compliance with Life Safety Standards and prepare findings with plans of correction.
• Collaborate with the Corporate Plant Operations Director on construction and remodeling projects to ensure safety and cost-effectiveness.
• Serve as a Hospital Safety Officer alongside the Environment of Care Director, scheduling regular meetings and providing recommendations for a safe workplace.
• Coordinate and maintain the Housekeeping Department to ensure the hospital is safely cleaned and well-maintained daily.
• Determine causes of problems, evaluate solutions, and solicit input from others when appropriate.
• Respond in the best interests of patients and the hospital, applying required job skills and knowledge.
• Actively pursue certifications and continuing education as applicable.
• Perform other duties and projects as assigned.

Requirements

• A minimum of 5 years in Facilities Management, with preferred healthcare experience.
• Experience in management or supervision of a Plant Operations Department, including EVS, Security, Grounds, and Biomed.
• Knowledge of facility buildings, equipment, and utilities.
• High school diploma or equivalent required; college degree in Engineering preferred.

Skills

• Ability to read, write, and follow written and oral instructions.
• Proficiency in mathematics, computer, reasoning, and language skills preferred.
• Ability to perform heavy work, including lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling objects; climb ladders; and use hand tools.
• Must successfully complete CPR certification and an Oceans-approved behavioral health de-escalation program.

Work Environment

• Subject to frequent interruptions and occasional pressure due to multiple calls and inquiries.
• This position can be high-paced and stressful; must be able to cope mentally and physically with the atmosphere.
• Spends approximately 90% or more of the time inside a building that offers protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes.
