About the role

Sarepta holds a leadership position in Duchenne muscular dystrophy and is building a robust portfolio across muscle, central nervous system, and cardiac diseases. In 2023, the company launched its fourth therapy and the first gene therapy to treat Duchenne. The Director, Patient Advocacy will shape advocacy strategies that deepen partnerships with patient communities and integrate patient perspectives across the product lifecycle, from research and development to commercialization.

Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership: Develop and execute Sarepta’s patient advocacy strategy aligned with enterprise priorities and community needs.
  • Community Engagement: Build, strengthen, and sustain trusted partnerships with patient advocacy organizations and community leaders.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Advise internal teams to ensure patient and caregiver perspectives inform planning and decision-making.
  • Patient Insights and Strategy: Identify, synthesize, and translate patient and caregiver insights into actionable recommendations for business decisions and development programs.
  • Capacity Building: Foster collaborations that advance community priorities and organizational objectives.
  • Compliance & Ethics: Ensure all interactions with patients, caregivers, and advocates adhere to compliance requirements.
  • Industry Awareness: Monitor healthcare, advocacy, and rare disease landscapes to identify emerging trends and opportunities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or above in life sciences, public health, healthcare, communications, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • 12+ years of progressive experience in healthcare, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, patient advocacy, public affairs, or related fields, with a track record in advocacy strategy, external partnerships, and influencing cross-functional decisions.
  • 8+ years of experience in patient advocacy, public affairs, stakeholder engagement, or external-facing roles, with a proven ability to build and sustain strategic partnerships in rare disease communities.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate patient, caregiver, and community insights into strategic recommendations that inform organizational priorities and business decisions.
  • Proven ability to operate with independence, judgment, and influence in a matrixed organization.
  • Strong strategic planning, risk mitigation, and organizational skills, with the ability to work across a complex matrix and achieve results.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills; strong presentation and PowerPoint design abilities.
  • Proven ability to influence and build alignment across all levels of the organization and with external stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to balance strategic vision with operational execution in a dynamic environment.
  • Willingness to travel 30–40%, including weekends, based on community needs.

Pay

The targeted salary range for this position is $185,600 – $232,000 per year. The offer is commensurate with Sarepta’s compensation philosophy and considers factors including education, training, experience, market conditions, role criticality, and internal equity. Candidates must be authorized to work in the U.S.

Schedule

This position is hybrid, requiring on-site work at one of Sarepta’s U.S. facilities and attendance at Company-sponsored in-person events as needed.
