About the Department

The University of Georgia Center for Continuing Education & Hotel advances UGA’s mission of Public Service and Outreach. The Georgia Center, located on campus across from Stegeman Coliseum, serves as the campus hub for non-credit professional and continuing education courses and houses the only on-campus hotel.

About the Role

The Director of Youth Programs manages multiple teams within the Continuing Education unit, overseeing a portfolio of more than 60 programs — including summer camps, academic competitions, and emerging educational initiatives — serving over 2,000 youth learners annually. The position recruits, hires, and directs a multidisciplinary workforce of operational, residential, and instructional staff (35–45 seasonal hires each summer, plus two full-time program managers). It carries direct accountability for participant safety, staff conduct, and regulatory compliance in a high-liability, 24/7 residential operation, and is responsible for a program portfolio generating approximately one quarter of the department’s annual revenue (budget exceeding $900,000). The role demands expertise in program management, stakeholder engagement, data-driven decision-making, and youth development best practices.

Responsibilities

  • Administer and continuously develop the year-round youth programming portfolio (60+ programs), including summer camps, academic competitions, and new initiatives; exercise independent judgment to plan, execute, and evaluate all aspects of program delivery for quality, financial sustainability, and mission alignment.
  • Direct year-round operational management in partnership with the youth program coordinator, setting priorities, managing timelines, and ensuring program-wide standards for enrollment, logistics, compliance, and participant experience.
  • Proactively identify, cultivate, and formalize strategic partnerships, sponsored works, grants, and collaborative agreements with University colleges, departments, and external organizations to expand offerings, diversify funding, and strengthen impact.
  • Develop, manage, and monitor an annual program revenue budget exceeding $900,000, including enrollment projections, pricing, expenditure control, and financial reporting for strategic planning and long-term viability.
  • Recruit, hire, onboard, supervise, and evaluate the full staffing structure: instructional staff, program staff, administrative staff, overnight camp staff, and full-time program managers, each with distinct qualification standards and deployed across separate programs.
  • Provide direct supervision, performance evaluation, and professional development for full-time and part-time staff; exercise hiring and oversight authority over seasonal instructors
