This position works closely with schools across Wyoming to promote meaningful social inclusion through Special Olympics Unified Champion Schools® (UCS), a strategy for schools Pre-K through College that brings together students with and without intellectual disabilities via sports, leadership, and whole-school engagement.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the Special Olympics Wyoming (SOWY) liaison for school programs, providing consistent communication and strengthening relationships with school contacts.
- Manage the grant supporting UCS and this position, including grant writing, budgeting, and monthly reporting.
- Support schools in implementing UCS programming by providing information, equipment, and resources.
- Travel to schools and communities statewide to network, recruit, and educate.
- Implement all three components of the UCS concept—unified sports, inclusive youth leadership, and whole-school engagement—in an increasing number of Wyoming schools.
- Collect and maintain data from schools, including participant numbers and event information.
- Conduct meetings with UCS liaisons at schools and develop communication materials, such as a monthly newsletter, to ensure clear and open communication.
- Coordinate and support the SOWY Youth Activation Committee (YAC) and statewide Inclusive Youth Leadership opportunities.
- Work with the Special Olympics North America team to meet national goals.
- Implement Young Athletes (YA) programs in preschools.
- Collaborate with the Wyoming High School Activities Association for Unified opportunities.
- Plan and implement the annual Leadership Conference and Youth Summit.
- Coordinate with the Director of Sports & Programs to develop efficient fieldwork strategies and outreach.
- Work collaboratively with internal team members to expand opportunities statewide.
- Attend all statewide competitions and events, providing assistance as needed.
- Enter participant paperwork into SOWY software and maintain athlete records.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of work experience and education.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and work independently or in a team setting.
- High attention to detail.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs and current social media platforms.
- Experience with Special Olympics or a school-based setting preferred.
- Willingness to travel statewide and work a non-traditional 40+ hour week, occasionally requiring 50-60 hours.
- Occasional out-of-state travel and training may be required.
Physical Demands
- Position requires both standing and sitting.
- Must be able to lift and carry light loads (10-40 pounds).
Skills
- Serve as a spokesperson for the organization as needed.
- Understand and share the Special Olympics Mission Statement.
- Willingness to work as a team player to enhance the Special Olympics Wyoming program.
Pay
Salaried position with a starting range of $46,500–$50,000 annually, depending on experience.

Schedule
Full-time exempt position based in Casper, WY. Not eligible for overtime.
