Regional School Unit No. 57 seeks a motivated and dynamic leader to oversee all transportation activities for RSU #57. Reports to the Director of Finance & Operations.
About the role
The Transportation Director provides leadership in identifying, assessing, and managing the district's transportation needs. This position coordinates, supervises, and ensures the smooth and efficient operation of all school district transportation, including oversight of maintenance for all district-owned vehicles.
Responsibilities
- Establish and implement a district-wide vision and department goals for effective and efficient student transportation.
- Prepare, implement, and manage the transportation department budget.
- Manage and lead a staff of transportation professionals.
- Prepare and implement efficient and effective bus routes for student transportation.
- Oversee the maintenance of a large fleet of district-owned vehicles to ensure safety and fiscal prudence.
- Provide effective communication with administration, staff, students, and families.
- Coordinate and manage student discipline matters on district-owned vehicles.
- Prepare federal and state reports as required by oversight agencies.
- Ensure compliance with all federal and state laws, as well as RSU #57 policies and procedures.
- Facilitate the purchase of vehicles as approved by the Director of Finance and Operations.
- Oversee transportation contracts and the purchasing of fuel, supplies, and services.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Finance & Operations.
Requirements
- CDL license with a pupil endorsement (or ability to obtain this certification).
- Prior management and leadership experience is preferred.
- Ability to manage and supervise a large staff.
- Proven experience multitasking and working well under stressful conditions.
- Prior experience with transportation routing software in a child transportation environment is preferred.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule based on the needs of the position.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Experience applying fair and consistent policies and procedures.
- Thorough knowledge of bus operations and logistics.
Pay
Salary range: $70,000 – $90,000 annually. Terms of employment, including work year and conditions, to be established by the RSU 57 School Board.
