POSITION SUMMARY:
The Director of Student Success leads the strategic management, development, and delivery of high-quality college-aged and career readiness programs at the YMCA of Honolulu. This role ensures operational excellence through adherence to YMCA policies while advancing Association-wide goals.

About the role

This role provides leadership to ensure high-quality young adult programs that enhance participant experience and align with YMCA mission, safety standards, and Youth Development requirements. It oversees the planning, implementation, and accountability of college and career exploration initiatives supported by Association funding and grants. Collaboration with department leaders, branch executives, and community stakeholders is essential to effectively execute programs and advance strategic goals. Budget management in partnership with the Program Executive Director is required, along with seeking and securing additional funding and partnerships to expand capacity, innovation, and long-term impact of young adult programming. Continuous program improvement efforts, ensuring inclusion, access, and relevance through ongoing evaluation and innovation, are also part of the role.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership to ensure high-quality young adult programs that enhance participant experience and align with YMCA mission, safety standards, and Youth Development requirements.
  • Oversee the planning, implementation, and accountability of college and career exploration initiatives supported by Association funding and grants (e.g., Student Board, Student Engagement, College Camp, ASB: Moloka’i, ASB: Philippines, FROSH Camp, scholarship opportunities, Internship & Practicum Mentorship, Volunteer Recruitment and Engagement).
  • Collaborate with department leaders, branch executives, and community stakeholders to effectively execute programs and advance strategic goals.
  • Manage program budgets in partnership with the Program Executive Director, ensuring fiscal accountability, accurate reporting, and sustainable operations.
  • Seek and secure additional funding and partnerships to expand capacity, innovation, and long-term impact of young adult programming.
  • Lead continuous program improvement efforts, ensuring inclusion, access, and relevance through ongoing evaluation and innovation.
  • Recruit, train, and support staff and volunteers, fostering professional development, retention, and strong succession planning.
  • Ensure organizational policies, risk management practices, and safety procedures are consistently implemented across all programs.
  • Support cross-departmental initiatives and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience in working with older teens or young adults is preferred.
  • 3+ years of related experience with staff and/or volunteer supervisory responsibilities required.
  • Skilled in staff development, budget analysis, communication, and human relations.
  • Ability to motivate individuals, lead a team, and conduct training.
  • Ability to work with parents, children, staff, and volunteers of diverse ethnic populations.
  • Adult and child CPR or CPR/PR, First Aid, and AED Certifications within 30 days of hire date.
  • Ability to travel from one location to another in a timely manner required.
  • Education & Training: College degree in Social Services, Public Health, Education, or related field; or 4 years equivalent in related work experience preferred.
  • Bus Driver’s certification required within 3 months of hire, which includes a valid driver’s license and clean traffic abstract.
  • Proficiency in Google Suite, Microsoft Office, Windows XP, Canva, preferred.
