Purpose and Scope

The Director, Student Life provides leadership in the daily and long-term operation, evaluation, and implementation of a comprehensive co-curricular Student Life program at a LSC campus and its Centers. Fosters the educational process outside the academic classroom and collaboration with college faculty, staff and students. Provides support for all areas of the college and ensures that areas are meeting standards of student engagement and academic quality as defined by internal and external experts and accrediting agencies.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for planning and oversight of key functions within the area of Student Life and student programming; promotes and ensures collaboration between all areas of Student and Instructional Services to ensure a cohesive and consistent standard of services
  • Manages, monitors, and administers Student Activity Fund budget; implements budget controls and performs needs assessments for development of annual Student Activity Fund budgeting recommendations
  • Hires, trains, supervises, and evaluates department employees at various levels; provides professional development opportunities for continued success and growth
  • Develops and drives departmental strategic plan, vision, and goal to maintain a vibrant and relevant Student Life program to meet the needs and interest of the student body
  • Creates, analyzes, and utilizes a variety of detailed reports; uses data-driven information to provide informed updates to administration
  • Analyzes, interprets and implements policies and practices as they relate a variety of compliance issues; ensures compliance with all applicable internal and external rules, regulations, and requirements, and with LSC policies and procedures
  • Regularly assesses and analyzes student needs and interest in the development of Student Life programs and initiatives, and evaluates programs to assess effectiveness
  • Serves on and attends internal and external meetings, committees, workshops, and conferences as required
  • Responsible for other reasonable related duties as assigned

Work Schedule and Conditions

  • Equipment used includes, PC workstation running on a LAN in a Microsoft Windows environment, calculator, phone and other general office equipment
  • Interface with internal and external contacts as needed to carry out the functions of the position
  • Work is performed in a climate-controlled office with minimal exposure to safety hazards

Physical Abilities

The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items, such as papers, books, or small parts; or driving an automobile. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and at least 5 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience must include at least 3 years in a management level position

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree

Salary

Hiring salary range is $72,821 to $83,745. Lone Star College provides a hiring salary range for all posted full-time non-faculty positions. Where your salary offer would fall in that range is determined by your related experience and education. Should you receive an offer of employment from Lone Star College, the resume submitted in the application process will be utilized to calculate your salary offer.
