About the role

The Director is responsible for the oversight, planning, and strategic management of a comprehensive focused student support system within the Division of Student Affairs. The Director is responsible for identifying accommodations, support services and resources that provide qualifying students with disabilities access to educational programs.

Responsibilities

  • Review and monitor the provisions of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 504, 508 of the Rehabilitation Act for students.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of federal and state regulations concerning students with disabilities.
  • Review and assess documentation to determine qualifications of reasonable accommodations for students.
  • Serve as a point of contact and resource for enrolled and prospective students and their parents/guardians, university faculty and staff regarding Student Disability policies and procedures.
  • Create, implement, and monitor a care plan for students of concern; ensuring on-going case management and record keeping.
  • Provide leadership in the development of policies, procedures, programs, and services.
  • Supervise, train, and guide two Assistant Directors of Student Accessibility and Case Manager and the Testing and Accommodation Coordinator.
  • Maintain the database system for tracking students with disabilities and requests for accommodations.
  • Direct policies and processes for the University’s Student Testing Center for students with accommodations.
  • Direct strategic, long-term goals for disability services that align with the mission of the Division of Student Affairs and the University.
  • Consult and collaborate with administrators, faculty, community leaders, and other resource persons to provide or arrange educational and training opportunities.
  • Assist and provide support for university-wide programs, including Orientation, Commencement, Move-In, and Admission events.
  • Develop and implement assessment instruments and evaluate results to determine best practices and necessary modifications.
  • Serve as a member of the Behavioral Intervention Team for Students (BITS) and other early alert or case management coordinated efforts.
  • Support the Threat Assessment Team on an as-needed basis.
  • Assist in the University’s response to students in crisis or to general crises affecting the university.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree or Bachelor’s degree with work experience that equates to an advanced degree.
  • Professional experience in providing direct service to individuals with disabilities in an educational setting.
  • Knowledge of laws affecting students with disabilities in higher education, including the Americans with Disabilities Act and Sections 504 and 508 of the Rehabilitation Act.
  • Ability to read and interpret assessment materials to determine what constitutes reasonable accommodations to afford students the ability to access educational programs.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
  • Excellent written and oral presentation skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Skilled in the use of computers to include database proficiency.
  • Ability to manage competing deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work a schedule that can accommodate some weekend and evenings.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in education and/or special education, higher education administration, college student personnel, counseling, social work, or related discipline.
  • Professional experience in providing direct services to students with disabilities at a higher education institution.
  • Experience supervising professional staff.
  • Experience planning and implementing programs and training at a higher education institution.
  • Experience working with a case management data system.

Pay

Salary $92,116 to $105,000, commensurate with education and experience.
