The College of Saint Benedict and Saint John’s University invite applications for a full-time (1.0 FTE), benefit-eligible position of Assistant Director of Student Accessibility Services.

Responsibilities

  • Accommodation Determination and Coordination of Interactive Accessibility Processes (40%): Conduct intake meetings with students identified with accommodation needs and access concerns. Review disability documentation to determine eligibility for services based on federal, state and institutional guidelines and laws. Assist students with identifying appropriate academic accommodation and services. Coordinate communication between students, faculty, staff and family, regarding academic accommodation and performance as appropriate. Provide on-going consultation and technical assistance to faculty and staff to facilitate equitable, accessible learning opportunities. Develop and coordinate formalized processes and procedures related to the provision of accommodation and services to students with disabilities. Maintain working knowledge of current legislation; local, state, and national regulations; and best practices higher education related to accessibility and students with documented disabilities.
  • Housing and Dining Accommodation Leadership (20%): Collaborate with Residence Life, Culinary Services, and other stakeholders to develop and manage processes for requesting, determining, and coordinating housing and dining accommodations. Serve as primary contact for students and families with documented disabilities that impact activities of daily living. Develop plans for reasonable accommodations for access to campus facilities. Advocate for students with disabilities in institutional decision-making related to facilities, housing, and dining. Develop materials and programming for students with housing and dining accommodations to promote successful living on campus.
  • Academic Support and Skill Development (20%): Assist students with academic concerns directly related to disabilities. Assist students in developing strategies/skills to advocate for their own academic accommodation and developing independence. Collaborate with the Admissions office to support prospective student outreach and meet with individual students and their families as needed.
  • Cocurricular Support and Skill Development (10%): Assess the interaction of students’ disabilities with the CSB and SJU environment. Develop plans for reasonable accommodation to ensure equitable, accessible co-curricular opportunities. Work with Facilities staff on each campus to identify and remove barriers to access. Collaborate across the institutions to foster a hospitable learning environment for all students. Collaborate with campus partners to develop policies related to disability issues and access. Provide consultation and training to faculty, staff, and students to promote awareness, sensitivity, and knowledge related to accessibility.
  • Accessibility Resource and Referral (10%): Provide information, referrals, and support to prospective and enrolled students. Assist students in understanding their rights and responsibilities related to accessibility and reasonable accommodation. Serve as a consultant on disability-related issues for the campus community, including the Student Support and Intervention Team. Document, maintain, and review student case records, notes and related information in electronic and manual files to maintain accuracy, consistency, and confidentiality under federal privacy laws. Establish connections with internal and external agencies to student progress at CSB and SJU. Develop and facilitate workshops and presentations on disability issues as needed. Assist in data collection for annual reports as needed. Serve on selected campus committees as requested. Works on special projects as assigned by the Director of Student Accessibility Services and other campus leadership.

Qualifications

  • Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in Rehabilitation Counseling, Social Work Counseling, Psychology, Education, Special Education, College Student Personnel or related field. Three years of experience working in an education or human services setting. Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing, with students, faculty, staff, administrators, and other campus partners. Demonstrated ability to innovate and think critically. Demonstrated flexibility and consistency in decision-making to demonstrate professional judgement. Demonstrated ability to adapt based on new information and data. Demonstrated ability to create a welcoming and non-judgmental environment for students, families and campus stakeholders. Demonstrated ability to adapt to new technology and utilize existing tools included Microsoft Office suite of products and database software systems. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Ability to maintain a professional atmosphere in a high-stress, charged environment.
  • Preferred Qualifications: Master's Degree in Rehabilitation Counseling, Social Work Counseling, Psychology, Education, Special Education, College Student Personnel or related field. Experience delivering services in 1-on-1 and group settings. Experience in developing and delivering specialized professional presentations and training. Experience working with individuals with a variety of disabilities; experience in academic support services, disability services and/or academic advising. Experience with applicable laws, regulations, policies and due process related to accessibility. Knowledge of resources for individuals with disabilities. Knowledge of higher education policies and programs related to disability services. Skill in analyzing requests for reasonable accommodation and developing and implementing plans for the provision of reasonable accommodations. Experience with individuals with disabilities in determining or providing non-academic accommodation (i.e. residential or dining).

Physical Requirements

Requires working at a computer for extended periods, including sitting, typing, reading from a screen, and using various software programs essential for the role. Occasionally required to lift or move items up to 20 pounds.

Travel Requirements

Occasional travel between the campuses of the College of Saint Benedict and Saint John’s University.
