About the Role
As the Director of Strategic Communication, you will define and execute the university’s communication strategy, lead dynamic teams, build strong stakeholder relationships, and deliver creative, compelling content across multiple channels. This role offers the opportunity to shape narratives that amplify SSU’s mission, values, and vision.
Responsibilities
- Lead the development and implementation of a comprehensive communication strategy.
- Manage and mentor a team of communication professionals.
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including university leadership, faculty, staff, students, alumni, and external partners.
- Oversee the creation and distribution of content across digital, print, and social media platforms.
- Ensure consistent messaging that aligns with the university’s mission, values, and strategic goals.
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of communication initiatives, adjusting strategies as needed.
- Serve as a spokesperson and represent the university in various forums.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
- Minimum of 7 years of progressively responsible experience in strategic communication, public relations, or a related field, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
- Proven track record of developing and executing successful communication strategies.
- Experience managing teams and fostering a collaborative, innovative work environment.
- Strong understanding of current communication tools, platforms, and trends.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling narratives for diverse audiences.
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with stakeholders at all levels.
- Experience working in higher education or a mission-driven organization is a plus.

Pay
Starting salary placement is based on qualifications and experience, anticipated to be in the range of $7,500 to $9,167 per month.
