Director of Special Education
About the role
The Special Education Director will lead a Special Purpose Private School in Bangor, supporting elementary students with specialized educational needs. The role involves providing leadership and supervision to a team of three teachers, participating in the agency management team, and engaging in various aspects of school operations.
Responsibilities
- Provide leadership and supervision to a team of three teachers
- Serve as an active member of the agency management team
- Support teachers in their classrooms
- Guide Individualized Education Program (IEP) development
- Strengthen curriculum and instruction
- Partner with families
- Ensure high-quality, compliant services
Requirements
- Master’s degree in Special Education, Educational Leadership, or a related field
- Experience working as an administrator or teacher in a school setting
- Experience with academic testing is preferred but not required
- Must obtain Safety-Care certification within 30 days of hire
- Valid State of Maine Driver’s License, reliable transportation, and willingness to use own transportation for work
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Special Education, Educational Leadership, or a related field
- Preferred: 030, 035, or 282 certification
Skills
- Strong leadership and supervisory skills
- Ability to engage with and support teachers
- Experience with IEP development and curriculum improvement
