Director of Social Services

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

• Aid the Program Director with the administration of the program.
• Ensure high-quality services to all residents through direct supervision of a team of Case Managers, Housing Specialists, Employment Specialists, and a Case Manager Supervisor.
• Coordinate all case management services, including social service intake, assessments, development and implementation of independent living plans, and case conferences.
• Facilitate communication between departments and lead staff meetings.
• Attend meetings with funders or outside agencies as necessary.
• Connect with community leaders to build relationships, gain support, and address issues.
• Report significant and monitoring events to the Program Director.
• Liaise with medical and psychiatric providers, employment providers, and community organizations to ensure appropriate service delivery.
• Create program content addressing housing, substance abuse treatment, mental health, and employment needs.
• Plan and organize program activities to align with DHS Performance Incentive Plans.
• Assist the Program Director with completing monthly deliverables as assigned.
• Maintain compliance with organizational policies and legal regulations by ensuring meticulous documentation of all activities.
• Analyze program and demographic client data to drive program improvements.
• Communicate with peers at other AAPCI shelters on client progress and best practices.
• Set realistic performance goals and report to supervising staff.
• Ensure housing and performance outcomes are met on a regular basis.
• Identify evolving program needs and gaps to develop new services, directions, and programs.
• Conduct and document one-on-one supervision of direct reporting staff to assess and improve work performance.
• Create and implement crisis prevention/intervention strategies to maintain a safe and secure environment.
• Organize training opportunities for professional growth and development of staff.
• Report all incidents that may subject AAPCI to liability to the Program Director.
• Assist in reviewing and submitting incident reports as directed by the Program Director.
• Oversee the facility and programs in the absence of the Program Director.

Qualifications

• Minimum Qualifications: Master’s Degree in relevant field with at least 3-4 years of successful experience in serving homeless individuals/families, mental health, substance abuse, or senior-level shelter administration; or Bachelor’s Degree with at least 5-7 years of experience in these areas.
• At least 3-5 years of documented progressive managerial experience.
• Supervisory experience of at least three (3) to five (5) years, strongly preferred.
• Experience working with the NYC Department of Homeless Services and DHS CARES system is preferred.
• Experience with case management, job development, and adult education.
• Previous experience creating and delivering impactful service plans for shelter residents.
• Excellent communication skills, professional demeanor, sound judgment, and strong organizational skills.
• Willingness to work collaboratively, but with the capacity to work independently.

Compensation and Benefits

The base salary compensation for this role is $90,457. Benefits include:
