Director of SEC Reporting & Technical Accounting

About the role

Reporting to the Chief Accounting Officer, this leader will own key SEC reporting processes, advise on complex accounting matters, and partner closely with executive leadership on strategic initiatives, including acquisitions and capital markets activity.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the preparation and filing of Forms 10-K, 10-Q, 8-K, Proxy Statements, registration statements, and other SEC filings
  • Own the preparation and review of financial statements, footnotes, MD&A, earnings release support, and Board and Audit Committee reporting materials
  • Research and document complex accounting matters under U.S. GAAP and SEC regulations, including technical accounting memoranda
  • Partner with leaders across finance, legal, investor relations, and external audit to deliver accurate, timely, and decision-useful reporting
  • Support acquisitions and other strategic transactions through due diligence, accounting analysis, purchase accounting, and post-transaction reporting integration
  • Monitor emerging accounting guidance, SEC developments, and reporting trends, and translate them into practical business recommendations
  • Strengthen disclosure controls, support internal control initiatives, and drive process improvements that enhance reporting quality and efficiency
  • Develop and mentor team members while serving as a trusted advisor to finance leadership on technical accounting and reporting matters
  • Drive impact through financial leadership by taking ownership of critical accounting operations and leading initiatives that enhance accuracy, efficiency, and strategic insight

Requirements

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and 8+ years of progressive experience in accounting, financial reporting, and SEC reporting
  • Active CPA license required

PREFERRED:

  • Big Four public accounting experience
  • Experience in insurance, brokerage, financial services, or another regulated industry
  • Experience supporting a publicly traded company and working with executive leadership and board committees
  • Experience with acquisitions, purchase accounting, valuation-related analyses, or other strategic transactions
  • Exposure to emerging growth companies, public company readiness, or capital markets activities

Qualifications

Required:

  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, SEC reporting requirements, and preparation/review of Forms 10-K and 10-Q
  • Demonstrated experience researching complex accounting issues and documenting conclusions clearly and effectively
  • Strong communication and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment
  • Ability to build strong cross-functional relationships and communicate effectively with executive leadership, auditors, and business partners
