About the role

The Director of Sanitation plays a crucial role in planning, coordinating, and directing all activities of the Sanitation Department. This position is responsible for developing, implementing, and enforcing policies and procedures to ensure efficient administration of sanitation services. The primary duties include overseeing the collection and transportation of solid waste and recyclables, managing street sweeping operations, and supervising litter control initiatives. The Director of Sanitation works closely with the Director of Public Works to align departmental goals and objectives.

The ideal candidate should possess strong leadership skills, strategic thinking abilities, and a deep understanding of waste management practices. They must have a proven track record in managing municipal sanitation programs and fostering a culture of excellence within the department. In addition to operational oversight, the Director of Sanitation is responsible for budget management, resource allocation, and staff management. Responsibilities

• Plan, coordinate, and direct all activities of the Sanitation Department.
• Develop, implement, and enforce policies and procedures for efficient sanitation services.
• Oversee the collection and transportation of solid waste and recyclables.
• Manage street sweeping operations and litter control initiatives.
• Align departmental goals and objectives with the Director of Public Works.
• Manage budget, allocate resources, and supervise staff.

• Liaise with stakeholders, policymakers, and the public to address sanitation concerns and promote environmental sustainability.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, or related field.
• 5 years of highly responsible management experience directing the activities of multiple work crews involved in the collection and transportation of solid waste.

Skills

Pay

$106,713.00 - $181,671.00/year

Compensation plans are based on a multi-step progression system. The pay range reflects the entry level and maximum salary potential in the assigned pay grade. A starting salary may be negotiated and will be commensurate with education, training, and experience in alignment with pay administration policies and Montgomery Personnel Board Rules & Regulations.
