Director of Prefabrication – Electrical Construction
Elite Executive Solutions is conducting a confidential search for an accomplished Director of Prefabrication to lead and scale prefabrication operations for a growing electrical construction organization in Reno, Nevada. This high-impact leadership role focuses on transforming prefabrication into a strategic operational advantage.
About the Opportunity
This position offers the chance to lead the development and execution of a long-term prefabrication strategy in an industry where prefabrication is increasingly critical. As projects grow larger and more complex, sophisticated prefabrication can improve productivity, safety, quality, schedule performance, and predictability. The successful candidate will influence project planning from preconstruction through field installation, introduce new technologies and processes, and help create a scalable prefabrication platform for complex construction projects.
Responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership for all prefabrication operations and initiatives.
- Develop and execute a comprehensive prefabrication strategy aligned with company growth and operational objectives.
- Lead the continued development, expansion, and optimization of prefabrication facilities and capabilities.
- Partner with preconstruction, estimating, operations, project management, VDC/BIM, and field leadership to identify prefabrication opportunities early in the project lifecycle.
- Establish standardized processes for identifying, designing, planning, producing, tracking, delivering, and installing prefabricated assemblies.
- Drive continuous improvement in production efficiency, labor productivity, quality, safety, and cost.
- Develop production planning, scheduling, capacity-management, and workflow systems.
- Establish KPIs and performance metrics for prefabrication operations.
- Monitor production output, labor performance, quality, cost, schedule, and operational efficiency.
- Evaluate and implement technology, automation, equipment, tooling, and manufacturing methodologies that improve productivity.
- Partner with VDC/BIM teams to strengthen constructability planning and digital-to-fabrication workflows.
- Work closely with project and field leadership to ensure prefabricated assemblies meet installation requirements and project schedules.
- Develop standardized assemblies, kits, workflows, and best practices that can be replicated across projects.
- Improve material flow, inventory management, logistics, staging, and delivery to project sites.
- Establish quality-control processes and production standards.
- Recruit, develop, mentor, and lead prefabrication managers, supervisors, production personnel, and support teams.
- Develop training and career-development programs for prefabrication personnel.
- Evaluate future facility, equipment, technology, staffing, and capital requirements.
- Promote a culture centered on innovation, continuous improvement, safety, quality, accountability, and operational excellence.
Qualifications
- Significant leadership experience in electrical construction prefabrication strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated experience leading, building, scaling, or transforming a substantial prefabrication operation.
- Strong understanding of electrical construction means, methods, materials, assemblies, and field installation.
- Experience supporting large and complex electrical construction projects.
- Mission-critical, data center, commercial, industrial, healthcare, manufacturing, or other complex project experience is highly desirable.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing-style production planning, workflow, quality control, and continuous improvement.
- Experience integrating prefabrication with VDC/BIM, preconstruction, estimating, project management, and field operations.
- Demonstrated ability to improve labor productivity and project performance through prefabrication.
- Experience developing operational KPIs, production metrics, and accountability systems.
- Strong understanding of material management, logistics, inventory, and supply-chain coordination.
- Experience evaluating and implementing automation, equipment, technology, and process improvements.
- Proven ability to build, mentor, and develop high-performing teams.
- Strong financial and business acumen with an understanding of ROI, capital investment, labor economics, and operational performance.
- Exceptional communication, leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial, and growth-oriented construction environment.
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Operations, Business, or a related discipline preferred; equivalent electrical construction and prefabrication experience will be strongly considered.
The Ideal Leader
The ideal candidate is a builder, innovator, and operator who understands both the manufacturing discipline required inside the facility and the realities of electrical installation in the field. They recognize that successful prefabrication begins during estimating, design, coordination, and preconstruction. The right leader will know how to align VDC/BIM, preconstruction, operations, procurement, project management, prefab, and field teams around a common strategy, transforming prefabrication into a core competitive advantage.
