Director of Preconstruction – Electrical Construction

About the role

Goliath Construction Consulting is seeking an experienced Director of Preconstruction (Nashville, Tennessee) for a well-established electrical contractor. This senior leadership position will oversee the company’s estimating and preconstruction efforts while helping drive continued growth through strong collaboration with operations and business development. The ideal candidate is a seasoned electrical construction professional who has successfully led estimating and preconstruction teams and can bring a “been there, done that” perspective to the organization. This individual will also serve as a key mentor to developing team members, including supporting and guiding the company’s business development function.

Responsibilities

• Lead and oversee the electrical estimating and preconstruction team, providing direction, accountability, and mentorship.
• Manage preconstruction activities from initial opportunity evaluation through estimating, budgeting, proposal development, value engineering, and project turnover.
• Establish and continuously improve estimating standards, processes, tools, and best practices to improve accuracy, consistency, and efficiency.
• Partner with executive leadership, operations, and business development to evaluate opportunities and develop effective pursuit strategies.
• Mentor and support business development personnel in understanding electrical construction, project selection, client needs, and the overall pursuit process.
• Review major estimates, scopes, risks, subcontractor/vendor coverage, and final proposals prior to submission.
• Develop strong relationships with clients, general contractors, vendors, subcontractors, and other industry partners.
• Provide leadership during project handoff to ensure estimating assumptions, scope, risks, and opportunities are clearly communicated to operations.

Qualifications

• Extensive experience in electrical construction estimating, preconstruction, and project pursuit, preferably with a commercial or industrial electrical contractor.
• Proven experience leading and developing estimating or preconstruction teams.
• Strong understanding of electrical systems, construction methods, labor productivity, material pricing, scheduling, and project risk.
• Demonstrated ability to evaluate opportunities and provide strategic input on project selection, pricing, and pursuit strategy.
• Strong leadership and mentoring skills with the ability to develop both technical and business development professionals.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills with the ability to work effectively with clients, operations teams, and executive leadership.
• Established industry relationships and a strong understanding of the electrical construction market are highly desirable.
