About the role

The Director of Philanthropy plays a crucial role in fulfilling The Catholic Foundation of Central Florida's mission and ministry by developing strategies for donor identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship. This position is part of the Donor Services team and focuses on major and planned giving, blending these efforts with the broader fundraising goals of the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Engages in relationships with a portfolio of 125-150 donors and prospects.
  • Participates in the entire donor pipeline process, including identification, qualification, cultivation, stewardship, and recognition.
  • Conducts research to align donor interests with Diocesan ministries and identifies potential donors.
  • Cultivates, solicits, and stewards major and planned giving prospects through various methods.
  • Maintains expertise in charitable giving vehicles and ensures compliance with relevant laws and policies.
  • Develops and monitors reports related to major and planned giving strategies and benchmarks.
  • Works closely with the Gifts & Grants Coordinator to track and value planned gifts.
  • Ensures donor confidentiality and maintains compliance with ethical policies.
  • Engages key leaders in donor stewardship and recognition.
  • Coordinates and executes Diocesan-wide programs promoting legacy giving.
  • Serves on Diocesan boards and committees and represents the Diocese in regional and national forums.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated success in fundraising with five to seven years of high-level comprehensive development experience, specifically in major and planned gifts.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Liberal Arts, Non-Profit Administration, or a related field, with a Master’s or JD preferred.
  • Experience with moves management, donor cultivation, stewardship, and recognition.
  • Experience with endowment and investment portfolios.
  • Experience with inter vivos planned gifts, including legal requirements for charitable gift annuities and other charitable giving vehicles.
  • Experience with standard procedures and legal requirements in planned gift processing, especially with testamentary gifts.
  • Superior relationship and leadership skills.
  • Community or Catholic Foundation experience a plus.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Blackbaud NXT, and Luminate software, or other constituent/donor relationship management systems.
  • Excellent presentation skills (virtual and in person).
  • Strong decision-making ability and attention to detail.
  • High level of organization, accuracy, and detail orientation.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and prioritize tasks.
  • Solution-oriented and able to maintain the goodwill and reputation of the team.
  • Ability to map, manage, and track projects involving multiple stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, as well as effective personal interaction and influence.
  • Possession of the CFRE credential and/or CAP preferred.
  • Practicing Catholic.
  • Ability to interact with staff at all levels, handle pressure, remain flexible, proactive, resourceful, and efficient.
  • Strong customer service orientation.
  • Ability to travel locally and diocesan-wide, work evenings and weekends as required for special events, meetings, travel, etc.
  • A passion for community involvement and philanthropy, infectious enthusiasm, and an entrepreneurial spirit.
