Director of Pharmacy

About the role

Under the direction of the Chief Financial Officer, the Pharmacist-In-Charge is responsible for filling prescriptions using acceptable pharmaceutical techniques, compounding and dispensing pharmaceuticals issued by physicians and other qualified prescribers. This role advises patients and providers on potential drug interactions, side effects, storage information, and proper medication usage. The Pharmacist-In-Charge must demonstrate the ability to communicate and interact appropriately with staff, patients, families, and visitors of all age groups while being sensitive to cultural and religious beliefs.

Responsibilities

• Provide information on drugs, drug dosing, side effects, indications, contraindications, and proper administration.
• Understand and align with the goals and objectives of the Corporation as outlined in the By-Laws and Policy and Procedure Manuals.
• Oversee packaging, labeling, measuring, compounding, storing, charging, and recording of medications used in patient care.
• Manage inventory, order, and maintain the supply of drugs, chemicals, and other pharmaceutical stock.
• Submit monthly reports to the Chief Financial Officer.
• Promote preventive care and healthy lifestyles for all patient lifecycles.
• Maintain secure storage methods for medicines and pharmaceuticals.
• Supervise pharmacy staff and daily operations.
• Counsel patients and providers on potential drug interactions, side effects, storage, and proper medication use.
• Establish healthcare standards and protocols for each medical service and program.
• Ensure confidentiality of patient information and records.
• Participate actively in performance improvement activities.
• Maintain complete, up-to-date, and accurate patient prescription records.
• Comply with credentialing and regulatory standards.
• Demonstrate honesty, integrity, and professionalism in all aspects of the job.
• Ensure productivity and effectiveness of pharmacy staff, focusing on utilization and patient satisfaction.
• Attend classes, workshops, and seminars to maintain clinical competency and stay informed of changes in community health.
• Demonstrate sensitivity to cultural issues and maintain a positive attitude when dealing with patients, colleagues, and external resource people.
• Attend provider meetings to advise and inform medical staff on drug applications and characteristics.
• Manage pharmacy personnel and develop quality assurance techniques to ensure safe, legal, and ethical practices.
• Maintain an updated list of direct relief inventory and communicate it with clinical staff.
• Ensure policies and procedures comply with board of pharmacy requirements.
• Maintain prompt and regular attendance.
• Verify timecards at the end of each pay period.
• Complete required IT/Security trainings prior to deadlines.
• Effectively evaluate employees by completing 6-month and annual evaluations prior to deadlines.
• Counsel employees on areas of improvement by completing trainings and Performance Correction Notices (PCNs) in a timely manner.
• Perform related work as assigned.

Requirements

• Graduation from an accredited school of Pharmacy.
• Completion of an approved Pharmacy internship.
