Director of Payments
Lumion is the AI-first operating system for trade and technical schools, managing the full student journey from first inquiry to graduation across engagement, enrollment, payments, and student success. AI agents work alongside human teams in one integrated platform, eliminating the need for multiple disjointed tools. The company operates its own payments and servicing engine, licensed in 48 states with a 91.6% collection rate over three years, setting it apart from competitors who outsource or avoid lending.
About the role
This is a general manager position where you own payments as a business: the P&L, volume processed through the platform, servicing and collections operations, critical reporting, and the student payment portal. You will manage the licensed engine that enables schools to design and collect on their own payment plans, reporting directly to the CEO with full ownership of the financial targets.
The opportunity is to expand payments adoption across the remaining schools (from 345+ to 500+), increase usage among existing schools, and maintain or improve the collection rate as the book grows.
Responsibilities
- P&L Ownership: Drive revenue, margin, and unit economics, with accountability for hitting growth targets.
- Origination and Usage: Increase volume on the platform by onboarding more schools and deepening adoption among existing ones. Reduce dormant accounts and maximize enrollment throughput.
- Servicing and Collections: Oversee the in-house, US-based servicing team, workflows, and borrower experience. Maintain a 91.6% collection rate as the floor, improving it while ensuring compliance and audit readiness.
- Reporting: Provide accurate, timely data on origination, collections, and portfolio health to schools, executives, and the board.
- Payments Product: Own the improvement and maintenance of:
- The student payment portal (reducing friction and increasing conversion).
- School portal components related to payments.
- All tools used by the servicing team for collections and servicing.
Your team
You will inherit a team of seven: a Director of Compliance, a Servicing Lead, and five servicers. Compliance, including 48-state licensing, exam readiness, and FDCPA adherence, is already fully staffed and operational under the Director of Compliance.
How we work
Decisions are made directly with minimal layers between you and leadership. The environment is lean, favoring automation and AI agents over headcount growth. The role is in-office in South Jordan, Utah, reflecting the importance of proximity to the team managing real financial operations for schools and students.
Requirements
- Experience in consumer finance, payments, loan servicing, collections, or fintech operations, with a deep understanding of origination, portfolio performance, and collection rates under load.
- Hands-on leadership: you’ve built systems, fixed broken processes, and prefer being close to the work rather than managing from a distance.
- Data-driven decision-making: you think in cohort curves, track unit economics rigorously, and base decisions on hard numbers.
- Proven ability to lead servicing, collections, or operations teams, driving performance beyond expectations.
- Product sense: ability to identify and prioritize improvements in portals or workflows based on impact and feasibility.
- Must be authorized to work in the U.S. and willing to work in-office in South Jordan, Utah.
Benefits
- Competitive base salary for a senior operator, with a $50K bonus tied to hitting payments targets.
- Meaningful equity stake, aligned with the performance of the payments engine (a major revenue driver for the company).
- 401(k) retirement plan.
- Unlimited PTO.
- Health, dental, and vision coverage via QSEHRA reimbursement.
- Monthly tech and wellness stipends.
