Director of Nursing - Perioperative Services

Bascom Palmer Eye Institute / Anne Bates Leach Eye Hospital in Miami, Florida seeks a full-time Director of Nursing, Perioperative Services.

About the role

A key leader responsible for oversight of operational aspects of care delivery to patients receiving surgical services. Ensures delivery of high-quality, safe, and efficient care in accordance with regulatory standards, with emphasis on patient experience and service excellence.

Areas of oversight include hospital-based Pre-Op Holding, 10 Operating Rooms, PACU, and Central Sterile Processing.

Responsibilities

• Directs, oversees, and evaluates all nursing personnel and staff.
• Coordinates department activities and guides staffing procedures.
• Sets objectives and long-term goals for the nursing department.
• Interprets policies and objectives of nursing service to staff and community groups.
• Recommends establishment or revision of policies; develops organizational structure and standards of performance for legal compliance and high-quality care.
• Controls budgets and monitors expenditures.
• Ensures nurses maintain current competencies, assessments, licensures, certifications, and annual training.
• Collaborates with other departments and professionals to streamline operations.
• Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
• Reports to upper management.
• Establishes and continuously assesses the effectiveness of internal controls within the unit and compliance with University policies and procedures.
• Ensures employees are trained on controls and University policy and procedures.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited institution (ACEN and/or CCNE).
• Valid State of Florida RN license.
• BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications from the American Heart Association.
• Minimum 5 years of relevant experience.
