About the role

Tillery Compassionate Care is seeking a compassionate, experienced, and mission-driven Director of Nursing to lead our nursing department and support the delivery of high-quality hospice care to patients and families. This leadership role is responsible for planning, directing, and managing nursing operations, supervising registered nurses and the CNA Team Lead, supporting the interdisciplinary team, and ensuring care is provided in accordance with hospice philosophy, agency policies, and applicable regulatory standards.

Responsibilities

  • Provide daily leadership and oversight for the nursing department, including registered nurses and hospice aides.
  • Ensure quality, compassionate care is delivered to patients and families in accordance with hospice philosophy and agency standards.
  • Collaborate with medical professionals, consultants, community partners, and interdisciplinary team members to coordinate patient care.
  • Serve as a clinical resource for care planning, patient assessment, hospice eligibility, documentation, and problem solving.
  • Maintain communication with the Medical Director regarding patient, family, and agency-related issues.
  • Develop and support education and training opportunities for clinical team members.
  • Manage nursing department processes, staffing, scheduling, and procedures in a fiscally sound and professional manner.
  • Oversee and implement the agency's policies and procedures on infection control standards/universal precautions and proper use of PPE.
  • Support compliance with state, federal, accreditation, infection control, and agency policy requirements.
  • Participate in performance improvement activities and policy development.
  • Represent the agency professionally within the medical community and general public.

Requirements

  • Current Registered Nurse license in North Carolina required.
  • Minimum of two years of nursing experience required.
  • Minimum of two years of hospice or home care experience preferred.
  • At least five years of supervisory experience required.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred.
  • Strong understanding of hospice philosophy, end-of-life care, regulatory requirements, and interdisciplinary care coordination.
  • Excellent clinical assessment, critical thinking, communication, documentation, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to respond independently and professionally in crisis situations outside a hospital setting.
  • Availability for some night, weekend, and holiday on-call responsibilities.
  • Ability to drive and meet the physical requirements of the position, including lifting or moving up to 50+ pounds as needed.

Schedule

Full-time schedule with availability for some night, weekend, and holiday on-call duty.

Pay

Annual salary range: $91,000 - $113,000.

In addition to the stated pay range, the organization provides a comprehensive employer-paid benefits package. The estimated value of these benefits is approximately 30% of the base pay rate and is not reflected in the advertised compensation range.
