Director of Marketing (Brand & Communications)

About the role

We're looking for a hands-on Director of Marketing to own brand and communications. In this industry, classic demand generation doesn't work—growth comes from word-of-mouth, field marketing, and brand/PR that make the right people seek out companies and lift the top-of-funnel meeting rate. Your job is to build the brand and turn the data into the credibility engine that drives it. You'll own strategy and do the work yourself, with budget to bring in specialists for tactical execution.

Responsibilities

  • Brand & communications (the core): Own positioning, messaging, corporate and executive comms, and the company’s voice. Make the category legible—they sit between the platforms that sell to developers and the tools that sell to contractors, and no one owns that middle yet.
  • PR & thought leadership: Earn coverage in the right trade press and podcasts, place executives, and make the company a name people see everywhere they look.
  • Data-driven authority: Turn proprietary, anonymized data into reports and benchmarks no one else can publish—the ungated content engine that builds trust and inbound interest, and the foundation of the long-term "standard for the industry" vision.
  • Field marketing & events: Run a meeting-driven conference presence and a handful of high-impact private dinners each year (no booths) that bring customers and prospects to the same table—and tie every dollar to pipeline.
  • Customer advocacy & network effect: Build case studies, customer stories, and a referrals engine, and activate existing accounts and platform logins to pull in new logos and create healthy FOMO.
  • Sales partnership: Sharpen messaging and arm the small, senior sales team. Marketing and sales are joined at the hip here.

Requirements

  • 10+ years in B2B marketing with deep brand and communications expertise in enterprise—you've built a brand people recognize and trust.
  • Startup experience is essential. You've been the one-person-does-everything marketer and thrived, and you're genuinely comfortable as a hands-on IC with no team to start.
  • Ideally experienced marketing to commercial real estate, construction, proptech, or a similar institutional buyer—you know this audience doesn't fill out forms.
  • AI-fluent: you use modern AI tools to punch well above your weight across content, research, and reporting.
  • A sharp writer and storyteller who can turn a data point or a customer call into content that travels.
  • Based in New York or ready to relocate, and energized by building in person, in the office.

Nice to have

  • You've run a data-storytelling or PR play and landed real coverage.
  • You've built brand and credibility from raw or aggregated data before.
  • You have a network across commercial real estate or proptech.

Why this role

You get real ownership of marketing at a company with a genuinely differentiated product, an enviable customer list, and a dataset that lends itself to remarkable storytelling—plus a founder who wants to move fast and a mission to become the verification and rating standard for how the world gets built. If you've been the person who quietly made your marketing org run, this is where you step out front.
