Director of Marketing

About the role

This position is responsible for marketing and public relations activities for VenuWorks of Ashland, including the Paramount Arts Center.

Responsibilities

  • Create marketing ad plans for assigned events and coordinate publicity for events and facilities.
  • Work directly with promoters, tours, and event planners to develop ad plans, including media buying, design services, and promotional development.
  • Monitor ticket sales reports and reprioritize marketing efforts to maximize ticket sales using all available assets.
  • Establish strong working relationships with media partners to secure the best rates, deal points, and promotions, maximizing the value of advertising spend.
  • Develop and maintain good working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, communicating event details throughout the campaign.
  • Coordinate on-site marketing responsibilities, including advancing show details, escorting media, contest winners, sponsors, and managing event promotions.
  • Create and compile post-event reports for show settlement, including invoices, tears sheets, patron feedback, and related materials.
  • Monitor and evaluate strategies and tactics for each event, adjusting plans to maximize resources and ticket sales.
  • Contribute to the creation of an annual marketing plan, year-end recap, sponsorship reports, and other materials.
  • Identify opportunities for publicity related to building operations, activities, awards, or honors, and share with local, regional, or national media.
  • Maintain brand standards for logos and names when used by outside partners.
  • Stay current on national industry trends and local market changes affecting events.
  • Maintain cutting-edge knowledge of new technologies related to websites, mobile apps, social media, advertising/media opportunities, and promotional items.
  • Respond to customer service inquiries about events and facilities via website, social media, and other communication methods.
  • Provide backup support for the marketing director or marketing coordinator as needed.
  • Attend and work events outside traditional business hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with VenuWorks policies and applicable laws.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university in marketing, graphic design, communications, or public relations; or 1–2 years of related experience/training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in graphic design using Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign) or equivalent programs.
  • Current, valid driver’s license and a working telephone number accessible by building management.
  • Excellent computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to organize workflow, meet deadlines, and work with minimal supervision.
  • Strong teamwork skills, fostering collaboration and contributing to a positive work environment.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, based on event schedules.

Skills

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Public speaking and presentation skills for engaging with managers, clients, customers, and the public.
  • Basic mathematical skills, including calculations of discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages.
  • Analytical and reasoning abilities to interpret instructions, solve problems, and make decisions under pressure.
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment while maintaining composure.

Physical Demands

  • Regularly required to reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear.
  • Frequently required to stand, walk, sit, and use hands to handle or feel objects.
  • Occasionally required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Ability to travel distances on foot quickly and attend to various needs while on-site at venues.

Work Environment

  • Work environment may include exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes, airborne particles, and outdoor weather conditions.
  • Moderate noise levels are typical.

Schedule

Work hours are generally Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM, but may vary based on event schedules and department needs, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
