About the role

At Commence, we’re the start of a new age of data-centric transformation, elevating health outcomes and powering better, more efficient processes to program and patient health. We combine quality data-driven solutions that fuel answers, technology that advances performance, and clinical expertise that builds trust to create a more efficient path to quality care. With human-centered, healthcare-relevant, and value-based solutions, we create new possibilities with data. We provide proof beyond the concept and performance beyond the scope with a focus on efficiencies that transform the lives of those we serve. With a culture driven by purpose, straightforward communication, and clinical domain expertise, Commence cuts straight to better care.

This is a builder role. The Director of Marketing will mature a marketing organization inside a fast-scaling, private equity-backed platform, aligning brand, demand generation, and market intelligence directly to revenue growth and business development capture.

Responsibilities

  • Own and evolve the Commence brand across all channels, ensuring consistency of visual identity, voice, and positioning as the company scales organically and through acquisition.
  • Build and execute the annual marketing strategy and budget in direct alignment with growth targets, pipeline objectives, and the corporate development roadmap.
  • Lead, develop, and scale the marketing and branding teams, including agency and contractor relationships, with clear accountability for output quality and measurable impact.
  • Drive demand generation and account-based marketing for commercial health buyers (payers, health systems, insurers) while supporting federal capture with targeted thought leadership, conference strategy, and customer-facing collateral.
  • Partner with business development and capture teams to produce win-oriented content: capability statements, case studies, white papers, proposal support materials, and executive briefing assets.
  • Position Commence's proprietary technology platform and AI capabilities credibly in a market where trust, compliance, and clinical rigor matter as much as innovation.
  • Own digital presence end to end: website, SEO/SEM, social channels, email programs, and marketing analytics, with disciplined measurement of pipeline contribution and cost per opportunity.
  • Lead public relations, analyst relations, and executive visibility programs, including awards, speaking placements, and earned media in federal health and health technology press.
  • Support M&A activity with brand integration playbooks, rebrand execution for acquired companies, and communications support through diligence and close.
  • Ensure all marketing activity respects the compliance realities of a federal health contractor, including accurate claims, protection of sensitive information, and appropriate handling of client references.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of progressive marketing experience, including 5+ years leading marketing teams at the director level or above.
  • Demonstrated success marketing technology or technology-enabled services businesses in both the federal/government sector and the commercial sector.
  • Deep familiarity with federal market dynamics: capture lifecycles, GovCon media and conference ecosystems, teaming-driven awareness, and marketing's role in supporting proposals and past performance narratives.
  • Proven commercial demand generation track record with accountability for pipeline metrics, not just brand activity.
  • Experience building or significantly scaling a marketing function, including team hiring, budget ownership, and agency management.
  • Exceptional writing and messaging skill, with the ability to make complex technical and clinical capabilities clear and compelling.
  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, business, or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Direct experience marketing in the public health or healthcare sector: federal health agencies (CMS, VA, DHA, HHS), payers, or health technology.
  • Experience inside a private equity-backed or high-growth environment, including brand work through acquisitions or rebrands.
  • Familiarity with AI and data platform positioning, including responsible AI messaging in regulated markets.
  • Experience with Salesforce-based marketing operations and modern martech stacks.
