About the Role

The Director of Marketing and Communications will serve as an integral member of YAF’s team, advancing Young America’s Foundation’s mission by managing YAF’s strategic communications and marketing with core constituents—students, supporters, alumni, and allies in the Conservative Movement. This role oversees YAF’s communications, public relations, digital media, and marketing team to maximize positive exposure and outreach nationwide. The Director will develop, integrate, and implement a broad range of communications and marketing activities to support YAF’s strategic growth. Reports to the President & Chief Operating Officer.

Responsibilities

  • Develop a strategic communications plan to ensure YAF’s long-term growth, increase awareness of programs and mission, and broaden visibility among key stakeholders.
  • Oversee day-to-day activities of the communications, public relations, digital media, and marketing team.
  • Create an ongoing marketing plan to enhance relationships with targeted media and key outlets.
  • Lead regular meetings with team members to ensure coordinated and consistent messaging.
  • Coordinate YAF’s rapid response (email, digital, and media) to time-sensitive events, including campus lectures, conferences, and current events impacting students.
  • Exercise judgment to prioritize media opportunities.
  • Work with YAF’s leadership to create and implement short- and long-term public relations strategies for maximum positive exposure.
  • Serve as a YAF spokesperson, representing the organization in local and national media (television, radio, print).
  • Build and grow relationships with media, particularly conservative outlets.
  • Collaborate with the Vice President of Student Programs to promote student programs, campus lectures, and initiatives for maximum media exposure and audience inspiration.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Development to promote programs and initiatives to current and prospective financial supporters.
  • Work with leadership at the Reagan Ranch and Reagan Boyhood Home to expand the reach of these historic properties.
  • Ensure publications, mail, email, newsletters, and general communications reflect organizational goals and successes.
  • Work with the National Journalism Center staff to integrate and grow this core project, leveraging the NJC alumni network in media and communications.
  • Oversee YAF’s New Guard online publication to prioritize and promote key stories and original content.
  • Maximize press coverage of YAF’s in-person student programming nationwide.
  • Interact with YAF students, friends, and supporters at programs and events.
  • Maintain relationships with allied organizations and communications staff in the Conservative Movement.

Requirements

  • 5+ years in communications and/or marketing; prior YAF experience a plus.
  • Passionate commitment to Young America’s Foundation’s mission and goals.
  • Experience leading and building teams.
  • Extensive and successful writing experience.
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience.
  • Zeal for YAF’s programs, initiatives, projects, and goals.
  • Self-starter with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and events.
  • Strong interest in promoting conservative ideas to young people.
  • Team player with excellent oral, written, organizational, and copyediting skills.

Pay

$120,000 - $150,000 per year.
