About the role

Build the public voice of New England's first and only Holocaust museum from the ground up, shaping how a landmark cultural institution introduces itself to the world. The Holocaust Museum Boston has partnered with Lindauer in the search for an inaugural Director of Marketing and Communications to lead the implementation and management of the Museum's brand, communications, public relations, and membership strategies during a critical period of launch and growth.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the Museum's primary brand steward, leading the development of brand guidelines, messaging frameworks, and content standards.
  • Lead marketing and communications execution during the Museum's pre-opening, launch, and early operating phases, including integrated campaigns for exhibitions, programs, and events.
  • Develop and oversee the Museum's digital strategy, including website content, email, social media, and digital storytelling.
  • Serve as the Museum's primary media contact, managing press relationships and leading a comprehensive media relations strategy.
  • Lead membership program strategy, development, and management as a core component of audience development and institutional sustainability.
  • Serve as a strategic partner to Development, Exhibitions, Education, and Operations to align messaging, public engagement, and membership goals.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of eight years of progressive experience in marketing, communications, public relations, brand strategy, or digital engagement, ideally within museums, arts and culture, higher education, or mission-driven nonprofits.
  • Experience supporting a major institutional launch, campaign, or public opening strongly preferred.
  • Strong experience managing digital communications and proven media relations expertise, including press strategy and writing press materials.
  • Experience designing or managing a membership program, subscription model, or community engagement initiative preferred.
  • Outstanding writing, editing, and storytelling skills, with a demonstrated commitment to equity, inclusion, and community-centered engagement.

Pay

The salary range for this position is $120,000–$150,000.

About the Holocaust Museum Boston

Opening in spring 2027, the Holocaust Museum Boston will be New England’s first and only museum dedicated to Holocaust education. Located in downtown Boston across from the Freedom Trail and the Massachusetts State House, the Museum will use immersive exhibitions, personal testimony, and innovative educational programming to preserve the history and lessons of the Holocaust and illuminate their relevance today. As the signature project of the Holocaust Legacy Foundation, the Museum will foster critical thinking, ethical reflection, and civic engagement while confronting antisemitism and promoting human dignity.
