Director of Maintenance

Tucker House Nursing & Rehab Center is seeking a Director of Maintenance to oversee the facility’s physical plant and essential mechanical, electrical, and resident care equipment, ensuring safe and compliant operations.

About the role

The Director of Maintenance holds administrative authority, responsibility, and accountability for maintaining the facility’s infrastructure in safe operating condition. This role manages staff to provide maintenance services that protect the health and safety of residents, personnel, and the public, ensuring a hazard-free, functional, comfortable, and homelike environment. Services must comply with the Life Safety Code of the National Fire Protection Association and all state and federal laws and regulations. In collaboration with the Nursing Home Administrator, the Director allocates resources efficiently to continuously improve quality.

Responsibilities

• Maintain the facility’s physical plant and essential mechanical, electrical, and resident care equipment in safe operating condition.
• Apply mechanical and technical concepts to facility plant, repair, and maintenance projects.
• Diagnose and repair equipment malfunctions using technical knowledge and analytic ability.
• Demonstrate sufficient knowledge of basic math to perform essential functions.
• Stay current with state and federal laws and regulations applicable to maintenance services and records in long-term care.
• Carry out all duties in accordance with the facility’s mission and philosophy.
• Uphold the rights, dignity, and individuality of each resident in all interactions.
• Coordinate and oversee activities of outside contractors and tradespeople in construction, repair, and maintenance of the physical plant and equipment.
• Interact with facility staff and residents to address questions and resolve grievances promptly.

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent; vocational training in a skilled trade or relevant technical training preferred.
• One year of experience in physical plant operations and equipment maintenance in an institutional healthcare setting.
• Freedom from illegal drug use and freedom from the use and effects of drugs and alcohol in the workplace.
• No history of being found guilty by a court of law of abusing, neglecting, or mistreating individuals in a healthcare-related setting.

Skills

• Competence in applying mechanical and technical concepts to facility plant, repair, and maintenance projects.
• Ability to maintain essential mechanical, electrical, and resident care equipment in safe operating condition.
• Technical knowledge and analytic ability to diagnose and repair equipment malfunctions.
