About the Role

The Director of Life Enrichment is responsible for a broad range of programs and services that promote resident quality of life, enhance the image and marketability of the Village, and improve the financial performance of the independent living business unit. This includes program development, planning, marketing, customer satisfaction, and financial accountability for the volunteer program, chaplaincy program, beauty salons, concierge, music, activity, special event, and fitness programs for independent living. The role also involves fostering JKV’s involvement with community, educational, and civic organizations to enhance program offerings and improve the Village’s image.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and implements operational plans for each program area, including annual goals, budget, program changes, satisfaction targets, and marketing/promotional efforts.
  • Oversees, develops, implements, and adjusts programs to meet resident needs and attract prospective residents, utilizing input from Resident Council, advisory groups, and surveys.
  • Provides diverse, creative, and meaningful program options addressing the seven dimensions of wellness: social, intellectual, spiritual, emotional, physical, environmental, and vocational.
  • Ensures program accessibility for residents with varying physical abilities and integrates programs for optimal synergy and teamwork.
  • Develops marketing, promotional, and communication efforts to encourage resident participation and meet revenue expectations using Village media (e.g., Touchtown, The Village Voice, JKtV).
  • Collaborates with dining services on joint promotions and events, and may extend promotional efforts beyond JKV in conjunction with the marketing department.
  • Develops annual operating and capital budgets, provides mid-year forecasts, and conducts competitive pricing surveys to meet revenue expectations.
  • Identifies opportunities to grow revenue while adhering to budget constraints and overall Village priorities.
  • Ensures compliance with city ordinances, state licensure requirements, and federal regulations, maintaining adequate documentation.
  • Works with community groups (e.g., community colleges, local schools, chambers, civic groups) to bring programming to the JKV campus and support community initiatives.
  • Maintains a safe and clean environment for residents and staff, working with risk management to meet insurance requirements and collaborating with maintenance and housekeeping for facility upkeep.
  • Recommends facility and equipment improvements as part of the capital plan for independent living and other business units.
  • Ensures programs meet the needs of licensed facilities and their residents, maintaining close relationships with administrators to meet licensure and resident expectations.
  • Establishes departmental policies, procedures, and objectives.
  • Interviews, selects, and recommends hiring of department associates; counsels, disciplines, and recommends termination when necessary, coordinating with HR.
  • Sets performance goals, monitors, and assesses associate performance, and maintains accurate attendance records.
  • Provides leadership in quality, safety, risk management, and compliance programs to achieve measurable results.
  • Adheres to all safety regulations and maintains acceptable workplace conduct.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university in Marketing, Public Relations, Business, or a related field.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Five years of management experience.
  • Five years of promotional planning and community relations experience.
  • Five years of experience working with senior adults (preferred).
  • Three years in special events planning (preferred).

Skills

  • Intermediate keyboarding skills.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Windows and PC applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Advanced promotional ability and public speaking skills.
  • Intermediate special events planning abilities.
  • Advanced customer service and conflict management skills.
  • Intermediate financial management skills.
  • Ability to represent the Village in public settings and work effectively with older adults.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
  • Ability to write speeches and articles using original or innovative techniques.
  • Ability to present information effectively to top management, public groups, and boards of directors.
  • Ability to compute rates, ratios, percentages, and apply mathematical concepts to practical situations.
  • Ability to deal with abstract and concrete variables.
  • Ability to learn point-of-service (POS) systems and scheduling software.

Working Conditions

  • Office setting, ranging from quiet to bustling.
  • Exposure to heat and cold when traveling to meetings on and off campus.
  • Activity, trade show, and special event environments.
  • Occasional travel via tour bus, boat, bus, or plane.
  • Required to drive own vehicle on and off campus for meetings and events.
  • May be called upon to assist other departments during declared emergencies.

Physical and Mental Demands

  • Frequent standing and/or walking.
  • Sitting for most of the workday.
  • Occasional use of fingers and hands for writing or keyboard use.
  • Occasional reaching with hands and arms, stooping, kneeling, climbing, or balancing.
  • Extensive speaking and hearing.
  • Occasional lifting of materials weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Vision requirements: close vision, distance vision, color distinction, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Supervision

Reports to the VP of Senior Living. Provides direct supervision to the concierge supervisor, lifestyles manager, chaplains, salon manager, and fitness manager.
