About the role

The Department of Student Engagement and Leadership serves as a central hub for student engagement activities, including Student Leadership Development, Registered Student Organizations, Campus Activities Board, Student Government Association, the Royal Court, and Fraternity & Sorority Life, New Student Orientation, and university-wide events like Homecoming, Viking Fest, Winter Homecoming, and Week of Welcome.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary advisor to: Student Government Association (SGA), Mister and Miss Elizabeth City State University Royal Court, and the Council of Presidents (COP).
  • Coordinate training programs, support with financial account management, and provide guidance in planning and calendaring programming for these entities.
  • Act as the first point of contact for all student clubs and organizations.
  • Collaborate with the Office of Student Engagement and Leadership to plan and implement major university events, such as Homecoming, Viking Fest, Week of Welcome, Viking Voyage Orientation, Viking Showcases, Blueprint Recruitment Initiatives, Founders Day Weekend, Parent and Family Weekend, and others.
  • Co-manage the SEAL work-study program alongside the Director for Leadership Development and Coordinator for Student Life.
  • Support the recruitment, training, and supervision of student staff.
  • Lead campus-wide programming efforts that promote student development and support the university's co-curricular learning outcomes.
  • Engage in innovative programming, student organization support, and campus-wide outreach efforts aligned with institutional goals.

Requirements

Minimum training requirements include a Bachelor’s degree (Master’s in Student Affairs/Higher Education preferred) with at least two years of experience in positions involving student activities and Fraternity & Sorority Life, or other Student Affairs/higher education-oriented areas; or a combination of education and experience in Higher Education.

Qualifications

Reporting Structure: The Director reports directly to the Executive Director of Student Engagement and Leadership, who provides strategic guidance and oversight. All major decisions and initiatives are developed in consultation with and require approval from the Executive Director to ensure alignment with departmental goals and university priorities. The Office of Student Engagement and Leadership falls under the broader leadership of the Associate Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs and Deputy Student Affairs Officer, who maintains administrative oversight of the unit.
