About the Role
The Director of Software Development & Architecture will lead the modernization of a large legacy software platform, establish a 3-5 year technology roadmap, and drive the organization's evolution into a product-focused software company. This leader will balance technical debt reduction with innovation, helping launch new digital products and services for anesthesiology education, certification, and assessment. The role is highly strategic, focused on architecture, productization, and organizational transformation rather than hands-on coding. Success requires a pragmatic leader who can modernize systems, influence stakeholders, and guide engineering teams through a multi-year transformation with a strong focus on risk reduction.
Responsibilities
- Lead the modernization of a large-scale legacy/monolithic application.
- Define and execute a 3-5 year future-state architecture roadmap.
- Drive organizational transformation into a product-focused software company.
- Balance technical debt reduction with innovation and new product launches.
- Align stakeholders and guide engineering teams through multi-year transformation.
Requirements
- Experience modernizing large-scale legacy/monolithic applications and defining future-state architecture roadmaps.
- Proven software product leadership with experience launching or productizing technology solutions.
- Executive-level technology strategy and engineering leadership, including technical debt reduction, organizational transformation, and stakeholder alignment.
Nice-to-Have Skills
- Experience in a software startup or high-growth product environment.
- Background with Node.js/JavaScript ecosystems and modern application architecture.
- Experience in regulated industries, education technology, certification, assessment, or healthcare-related platforms.
