Director of IT

About the Role

Scale Computing is hiring a Director of IT to lead corporate IT, encompassing end-user services, identity, endpoints, collaboration, business SaaS platforms, office networks, and the IT service desk. This leader will manage how IT work is prioritized, delivered, and reported, ensuring cost-effectiveness, reliability, and security. The role is full-time and based in Austin, TX, or Indianapolis, IN. Ideal candidates have experience consolidating IT environments post-acquisition, managing planned and unplanned IT work, and measuring success through outcomes and cost reduction.

Responsibilities

• Own the IT service desk, including intake, request catalog, prioritization, SLA definition, and knowledge base.
• Consolidate duplicate workflows and retire redundant tooling from legacy organizations.
• Manage identity and access lifecycle (Google Workspace, SSO, MFA) and integrate with HR processes.
• Oversee endpoint management (MDM, patching, encryption, EDR) for Windows, macOS, and mobile devices.
• Manage the SaaS portfolio, vendor contracts, and license utilization.
• Own IT asset management, including hardware lifecycle, procurement, and secure disposal.
• Maintain office and remote-worker connectivity, conferencing, and collaboration services.
• Build and manage the IT budget, tracking spend and cost savings.
• Implement AI assistance to reduce IT workload and set team standards.
• Develop the IT team, maintain development plans, and address underperformance.
• Represent IT in change management, incident escalation, and cross-functional planning.

Requirements

• 10+ years in IT, with 5+ years directly managing IT teams.
• Bachelor's degree in IT, Computer Science, or related field, or equivalent experience.
• Proficiency in Jira Service Management or equivalent ITSM platforms.
• Hands-on experience with workforce identity (Entra ID/Azure AD, Okta, JumpCloud, Google Workspace), SSO/MFA, and endpoint management (Intune, Jamf).
• Track record of consolidating IT environments and service desks.
• Experience managing IT budgets and negotiating vendor contracts.
• Experience supporting audits (PCI-DSS, SOC 2, or ISO 27001).
• Working knowledge of AI tooling in IT operations.
• Strong people-leadership skills, including development planning and performance management.
• Clear communication with technical and executive stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Experience in managed-services or multi-tenant environments with compliance obligations (nice to have).
• Scripting or automation skills (PowerShell, Python, Bash) and workflow automation experience (nice to have).
• ITIL, PMP, or Agile/Scrum certifications (nice to have).
