About the role

Directors are accountable for outcomes of a defined business area. Responsibilities include the management, strategy, and execution of deliverables, products, services, and organizational initiatives. They must have knowledge of our business and industry. In addition, they must know how all business areas fit together to meet our overall business objectives – sales, operations, product, IT, finance, marketing, etc.

Responsibilities

  • Provide guidance and direction to teams on key decisions while keeping our internal and external clients in mind.
  • Develop and promulgate adherence to shared methodologies, standards, and procedures.
  • Build excitement and a shared purpose across teams to achieve organizational objectives.
  • Find common ground and get cooperation across teams/departments with minimum noise.
  • Keep stakeholders informed of major initiatives.
  • Anticipate roadblocks and plan approach accordingly.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders across Nelnet on defining strategy/solutions.
  • Keep abreast of industry changes to recommend and evaluate new solutions/services.
  • Coach team members and promote continuous learning for self and team.
  • Oversee departmental finances, including budgeting and forecasting.
  • Interface with vendors, consulting companies, and other outside providers.

Requirements

  • 4-year degree in accounting or equivalent experience
  • 10+ years of accounting experience
  • Experience in a management role

Skills

  • Experience in team area and/or industry
  • Ability to align short-term goals with long-term objectives
  • Can comfortably handle risk and uncertainty
  • Knowledgeable in current and possible future policies, practices, trends, technology, and information affecting his/her business and organization
  • Proven ability to effectively manage conflict
  • Proven success in building and leading high-performance teams

Pay

Annual compensation range for this role is $140,000-$150,000.

Schedule

This position offers a hybrid work option. Associates living within 30 miles of an office location work remotely for part of the week and collaborate in-office three days per week.

Candidates must already be authorized to work in the United States without the need for current or future sponsorship.
