About the role
The Director of Instructional Development at Project Lead The Way (PLTW) leads a team of Instructional Developers to generate and manage the content that forms the centerpiece of the instructional programs offered by PLTW. They collaborate with Product Managers to understand and meet content requirements, including quality, schedule, and budget expectations. They also work with leaders from the Product Team and other departments to create project plans and development processes.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with Product Managers to understand and meet content requirements for the program.
- Ensure that the content meets learning goals, curriculum standards, and other established requirements.
- Lead the design and development of new instructional materials for teachers and students.
- Provide approvals to confirm that the materials meet learning goals, curriculum standards, and other established requirements.
- Lead revisions of instructional materials in response to changes in existing requirements.
- Collaborate with vendors, advisory groups, and other internal and external stakeholders to ensure successful development and implementation of PLTW programs.
- Present complex information in a clear, concise manner, both verbally and in writing.
- Occasionally travel as needed.
Requirements
- A Bachelor's degree in education or in a related field of study.
- High School Computer Science teaching experience.
- Pedagogical knowledge of project and problem-based learning.
- Experience managing a team focused on a single product or product line, establishing best practices, coordinating priorities, allocating staff resources, and coaching team members toward continuous professional development.
- A desire to partner with product managers to provide recommendations about program content and to understand requirements for product-market fit.
- Experience leading revisions of instructional materials in response to changes in existing requirements.
- The ability to collaborate with vendors, advisory groups, and other internal and external stakeholders to ensure successful development and implementation of PLTW programs.
- A learner’s mindset with continuous curiosity about ways to improve our impact on students and educators.
- The ability to multi-task, prioritize, work collaboratively, and be detail oriented.
- Excellent judgment and ability to adapt to changing priorities with openness and efficiency.
Qualifications
- The ability to lead the design and development of new instructional materials for teachers and students.
- The ability to present complex information in a clear, concise manner, both verbally and in writing.
- The ability to occasionally travel.

- Deep subject-matter expertise in computer science, engineering, and biomedical science.
- Substantial experience in K-12 classrooms.
