Director of Institutional Advancement, Alpha - $200,000/year USD
About the role
The families enrolling at Alpha Miami rely on trusted advisors across all areas of their lives. You will serve as the contact they reach out to when questions arise, when concerns surface, or when they wish to share a meaningful moment. You will develop sufficient familiarity with each family to recognize their needs proactively—and bring the judgment and bearing required to address whatever they present with care, discretion, and apparent ease. Over time, your role will extend beyond their child's school, becoming woven into the texture of how they navigate this period of their family's journey.
The private school landscape in Miami is compact, tightly networked, and intolerant of errors. A family's experience at Alpha circulates through influential circles: condominiums, clubs, yachts, benefit circuits, and WhatsApp threads that shape where subsequent families enroll. You will grasp this dynamic intuitively, having built your career in settings where reputation is the sole form of capital and a single error endures longer than all successes. You will cultivate a community that families regard with loyalty, where inclusion feels natural and referrals occur because the experience merits them.
Miami operates as a global city. You will engage with families from Latin America, international corporate leaders, finance and technology professionals who have recently relocated, and globally mobile households whose perspectives on education derive from contexts beyond the American independent school model. Many transition seamlessly among Miami, São Paulo, Bogotá, Madrid, and New York, evaluating Alpha against global alternatives. The ideal candidate will navigate cross-cultural family contexts—and the expectation of sophisticated, responsive relationships—with confidence.
Alpha does not follow a traditional school model. Students complete core academic content in two hours daily through AI-powered applications, then dedicate remaining time to public speaking, critical thinking, and practical projects. No lectures. No unnecessary assignments. Top 1% performance nationally. Families selecting this approach have made a deliberate choice—and in a city where educational decisions function as status signals, they will face continual questions. You will ensure they are always prepared with confidence.
Responsibilities
- Shape the cultural environment of the school community—the voice, rituals, and implicit standards that foster family belonging—so Alpha feels like an institution families take pride in, not merely a school they selected
- Oversee the complete parent relationship—from initial contact through enrollment, retention, and sustained advocacy—so educators remain focused on students and families always have a reliable point of contact
- Detect early signals when circumstances feel misaligned, and address them with the discretion and judgment that preserves trust—including recognizing when a family is not an appropriate match
- Maintain visibility in family life: drop-off, pick-up, evening gatherings, and spontaneous exchanges that carry the most weight
- Develop a community that both domestic and international families regard with pride—and where referrals emerge because the experience warrants them
- Communicate Alpha's narrative persuasively—in individual discussions, at events, and in settings populated by discerning, globally oriented families where the school's standing is truly established
- Operate with substantial autonomy, constructing necessary systems and processes without relying on established infrastructure
- Engage authentically in relationships, valuing meaningful connections over procedural adherence
What You Won’t Be Doing
- Operating from a desk—visible engagement in the community defines the position
- Adhering to standard 9–5 schedules—early mornings, late afternoons, and evening functions are integral to the role
- Delegating challenging parent discussions to educators or administrators—you assume full ownership of these
- Approaching family relationships as transactional accounts—authentic engagement is prioritized
Requirements
- 5+ years securing and sustaining the confidence of high-net-worth or ultra-high-net-worth families in a relationship-intensive, high-touch capacity
- Demonstrated success guiding sophisticated clients through consequential decisions—with measurable outcomes you can articulate: conversions, retention, referrals
- The discretion and poise to manage sensitive, confidential matters without leaving any trace
- Proven experience managing and developing people—providing coaching, upholding rigorous standards, and executing difficult personnel decisions
- Innate cross-cultural competence with globally mobile and established Miami families
- AI-forward orientation—fluency with AI tools, understanding their strengths and limitations, and proactively introducing superior solutions
- Based in Miami, available full-time on-site, and comfortable with variable hours
- Legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship
Nice-to-have Requirements
- Experience serving as a head of school, principal, superintendent, or in an equivalent school leadership capacity
- Professional proficiency in Spanish or Portuguese
- Personal or professional background with independent or non-traditional education models
- Established connections within Miami's private school parent communities
- Experience working with internationally mobile, Latin American, or globally connected families
- A personal network extending through the neighborhoods, clubs, and institutions where Alpha's families reside and make decisions
