Director of Institutional Advancement, Alpha - $200,000/year USD
Families enrolling at Alpha Miami rely on trusted advisors across all areas of their lives. This is the advisor they've been looking for. You will serve as the primary contact they reach out to when questions arise, concerns surface, or when they wish to share meaningful moments. By developing deep familiarity with each family, you will proactively recognize their needs and address them with care, discretion, and ease. Over time, your role will extend beyond their child’s school experience, becoming woven into the fabric of their family’s journey.
The private school landscape in Miami is compact, tightly networked, and intolerant of errors. A family’s experience at Alpha circulates through influential circles—condominiums, clubs, yachts, benefit events, and WhatsApp threads that shape enrollment decisions. You will intuitively grasp this dynamic, having built your career in environments where reputation is the sole form of capital, and a single misstep can overshadow years of success. Your goal is to cultivate a community that families regard with loyalty, where inclusion feels natural and referrals happen organically because the experience merits them.
Miami operates as a global city, attracting families from Latin America, international corporate leaders, finance and technology professionals, and globally mobile households. Many transition seamlessly between Miami, São Paulo, Bogotá, Madrid, and New York, evaluating Alpha against global alternatives. The ideal candidate will navigate cross-cultural contexts and sophisticated relationship expectations with the same confidence they bring to Miami’s established private school culture.
Alpha does not follow a traditional school model. Students complete core academic content in two hours daily through AI-powered applications, then dedicate the remaining time to public speaking, critical thinking, and practical projects. There are no lectures or unnecessary assignments, and performance ranks in the top 1% nationally. Families who choose this approach do so deliberately—and in a city where educational decisions serve as status signals, they will face continual scrutiny. You will ensure they are always prepared with confidence. If sustaining that conviction through years of informed, internationally benchmarked dialogue feels compelling, this role is for you.
Responsibilities
- Shape the cultural environment of the school community—the voice, rituals, and implicit standards that foster family belonging—so Alpha feels like an institution families take pride in, not merely a school they selected.
- Oversee the complete parent relationship—from initial contact through enrollment, retention, and sustained advocacy—so educators remain focused on students and families always have a reliable point of contact.
- Detect early signals when circumstances feel misaligned, and address them with the discretion and judgment that preserves trust—including recognizing when a family is not an appropriate match.
- Maintain visibility in family life: drop-off, pick-up, evening gatherings, and spontaneous exchanges that carry the most weight.
- Develop a community that both domestic and international families regard with pride—and where referrals emerge because the experience warrants them.
- Communicate Alpha's narrative persuasively—in individual discussions, at events, and in settings populated by discerning, globally oriented families where the school’s standing is truly established.
What You Won’t Be Doing
- Operating from a desk—your visible engagement in the community defines the position.
- Adhering to standard 9–5 schedules—early mornings, late afternoons, and evening functions are integral to the role, not occasional demands.
- Delegating challenging parent discussions to educators or administrators—you assume full ownership of these.
- Depending on administrative infrastructure, established systems, or a complete team—you function with substantial autonomy and construct what is necessary.
- Approaching family relationships as transactional accounts—this position values authentic engagement, not procedural adherence.
Requirements
- 5+ years securing and sustaining the confidence of high-net-worth or ultra-high-net-worth families in a relationship-intensive, high-touch capacity.
- Demonstrated success guiding sophisticated clients through consequential decisions—with measurable outcomes you can articulate: conversions, retention, referrals.
- The discretion and poise to manage sensitive, confidential matters without leaving any trace.
- Proven experience managing and developing people—providing coaching, upholding rigorous standards, and executing difficult personnel decisions—not merely managing relationships or client accounts.
- Innate cross-cultural competence with globally mobile and established Miami families.
- AI-forward orientation—you employ AI tools with fluency, understand their strengths and limitations, and proactively introduce superior solutions, even if you are not developing them independently.
- Based in Miami, available full-time on-site, and comfortable with variable hours.
- Legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
Nice-to-Have Requirements
- Experience serving as a head of school, principal, superintendent, or in an equivalent school leadership capacity.
- Professional proficiency in Spanish or Portuguese.
- Personal or professional background with independent or non-traditional education models.
- Established connections within Miami’s private school parent communities.
- Experience working with internationally mobile, Latin American, or globally connected families.
- A personal network extending through the neighborhoods, clubs, and institutions where Alpha’s families reside and make decisions.
