Director of Health/Nurse - Children's School (Youth & Family Programs)/Seasonal Employment

About the role

The Children’s School at Chautauqua’s Children’s School is a developmental preschool for youth ages 3 to 5. It offers a variety of social, recreational, and educational activities designed to support the holistic development of young children. Weekly themes and guest speakers enrich the curriculum, providing a dynamic learning environment.

Responsibilities

• Create a safe, welcoming environment that supports the wellness of all people involved in the program.
• Understand and adhere to Chautauqua Institution and New York State regulations regarding the operation of a licensed children’s camp.
• Act as a mandated reporter in accordance with New York State law.
• Supervise health and sanitation protocols, including proper handling of bloodborne pathogens and response systems for camper injuries.
• Train staff on handling bloodborne pathogens, identifying measles, and responding to health concerns.
• Support counselors in addressing social and emotional issues among campers.
• Be the primary point of contact during medical emergencies.
• Provide necessary equipment, supplies, and training for all camp outings.
• Maintain a daily medical log using CampDoc, including a medication dispensation log.
• Review and collate relevant information from camper health records for program staff.
• Identify potential risks and implement strategies to mitigate severe harm.
• Report required incidents to the local health department in compliance with NYS regulations.
• Maintain confidentiality of all camper records in accordance with national, state, and local regulations.
• Submit Incident/Accident reports to the Chautauqua’s Treasurer’s Office for review.
• Utilize facility, technology, and other infrastructure resources to deliver high-quality care.

• Experience working with children in a childcare or educational setting.
• Knowledge of child development and safety protocols.
• Ability to communicate effectively with children, parents, and staff.
• Strong organizational and supervisory skills.
• Basic understanding of health and sanitation standards.

Pay

$18.00/Hour, with potential for up to $22.00/Hour based on experience and qualifications.

Schedule

Pre-season: Up to 10 hours/week, starting eight weeks prior to the first day of operations. Mandatory in-person three-day staff training session before the start of operations. In-season: Primarily Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., averaging 30 hours/week. Schedules may vary based on business needs.
