Director of Health/Nurse - Club (Youth & Family Programs)/Seasonal Employment

About the role

The Boys and Girls Club is the longest-running summer day camp in the United States, offering a blend of traditional and modern educational and recreational activities for youth aged 6 to 15. The camp operates from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Responsibilities

• Create a safe, welcoming environment that supports the wellness of all participants, staff, and families.
• Understand and adhere to policies and procedures set by Chautauqua Institution and New York State regulations.
• Assume the role of mandated reporter according to New York State law.
• Supervise health and sanitation protocols for the program.
• Train staff on handling bloodborne pathogens, identifying measles, and responding to camper injuries.
• Support counselors in addressing social and emotional issues among campers.
• Provide necessary equipment, supplies, and training for all camp outings.
• Maintain a daily medical log using CampDoc, including a medication dispensation log.
• Review and collate relevant information from camper health records for program staff.
• Identify and address potential risks to prevent severe harm.
• Report required incidents to the local health department as per NYS regulations.
• Maintain confidentiality regarding all camper records.
• Submit incident/accident reports to the Chautauqua's Treasurer’s Office for review.
• Utilize available facilities, technology, and infrastructure to deliver high-quality care.

Qualifications

Compensation starts at $20.00/Hour and may increase to $23.00/Hour with experience. Candidates must have strong communication, supervision, and emergency response skills, along with a background in child development and safety protocols.

Benefits

Chautauqua Institution offers a referral bonus program for active employees who refer new hires. The program includes a $500 bonus (after taxes) for referrals made between June and August, contingent on the new hire remaining employed for at least 90 days.

Schedule

Seasonal employment typically includes evenings, weekends, and holidays. Pre-season work involves up to 10 hours/week, starting eight weeks before the first day of operations. In-season, the typical schedule is Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., averaging 35 hours/week. Additional hours may be available in Youth & Family Programs.

Living on the Grounds

Chautauqua Institution may provide limited housing options on their grounds or assist with finding nearby accommodations. Housing is not an option for many positions and may incur costs. Employer-provided housing may be available for certain positions.
