Responsibilities
- Leads the Office of Government Relations and Community Engagement.
- Serves as the chief government relations officer for UToledo spanning local, state and federal government relationships and provides key insights to and oversees UToledo’s contract lobbyists.
- Directs UToledo's Government Relations activities at the local, state and federal levels.
- Plans and develops the institution's response to proposed legislation.
- Maintains effective relationships with government agencies and officials.
- Analyzes, assesses and advocates on legislative, administrative, and regulatory government activities as they pertain to UToledo programs including academic, research, athletics, and health care programs, activities and operations.
- Communicates these activities and information to internal and external stakeholders in partnership with UToledo’s contract lobbyists.
- Oversees community engagement for UToledo including University sponsorships, partnerships, events and programming to align with the strategic priorities of the University.
Requirements
- A master’s or advanced degree in political science, public policy or law or significant experience in government or higher education required.
- At least 7 years’ experience working in government relations; or a university office with a major portion of responsibility relating to government relations and/or community engagement.
- Minimum of five years of supervisory experience is required with seven preferred.
- Experience serving as the primary point person for visits of high political office (governor, senators, members of the House of Representatives, White House visitors including cabinet holders, and senior agency officials at the state and federal level).
